MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: The Gate Inn once more hosted MTN on 11th May and new chef Lee was shown the ropes by Dean and Jane. 31 people sat down to a delicious meal of roast chicken. Our thanks go to Dean and Jane who have supported us throughout and we wish them all the best in the future.
Our next meeting on 9th June will be a BBQ followed by strawberries and cream. If inclement weather should prevail, plan B will be put into operation! If you would like to join us, please ring Joan on 702137 to book your place.
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: The monthly meeting of the local WI took place on Wednesday 20th May in the Village Hall at the usual time of 7:15pm.
This was the “Resolutions” meeting and a plant stall operated during the evening.
When the group met earlier (Tuesday 5th May) it was the area group meeting when 45 plus members met (again in the village hall) and enjoyed an evening in convivial company. An interesting speaker addressed the group and on completion members availed themselves of an excellent buffet.
QUIZ NIGHT: A much larger than usual turn out at the local hostelry on Sunday night as villagers and friends made the effort and gathered to say goodbye the present landlord / landlady Dean and Jane Slater who are moving on in a bid to further their careers.
As regulars drank a toast to the incumbents and wished them well local resident and owner of the Gate Inn Mr Les May reiterated the same good wishes and every success in future ventures. Formalities complete it was then the serious business of the main event of the evening, the very popular quiz, which is held at the Gate every Sunday night at 8:00pm and attracts an ever increasing crowd each week.
In the absence of regular question master John Jones, local man Nigel Johnson again took the chair for the evening. After a great many questions, winners were finally established and a surprise all round when it was announced it was the Landlord / Landlady themselves who had actually won on the night.
Congratulations from all the other competitors brought another good night to a close at the local venue.
Another quiz on Sunday at the usual starting time of 8:00pm.
