Nottinghamshire Community Foundation Paddock - October 2015ock

The green space opposite the Gate Inn is already pleasing to the eye with its long views over the wall, but additional planting could make it even more attractive.

A prize of £50 is being offered for the best design for enhancing the site and the competition is open to everyone who lives in Sutton. A diagram of the site for you to work on is here. Copies are also available by contacting Monica Hockenhull on (01777) 719 738. Monica is acting on behalf of the Nottinghamshire Community Foundation who, through the kindness of the present owners of the site (Mr and Mrs Innes), will shortly be taking over The Paddock – as it is currently known.

Study the diagram and decide where you think new plantings should be sited and what the new plantings should be … trees perhaps? … shrubs maybe? … flower beds possibly? Put your imagination to work, but first here are a couple of helpful hints:

  1. Easy maintenance of the green space is a must, so your diagram should not be too elaborate or complicated, and
  2. The view of the church may be something to bear in mind as you draw up your plan

For practical reasons the winning design may not necessarily be used in every particular and minor adjustments may have to be made to it, though these will be as few as possible.

The closing date for the competition is 15th January 2016 and entries should be delivered to Monica Hockenhull at:

7 Sutton Lane
Sutton cum Lound
DN22 8PY

The winning design will be chosen by a panel of three judges, who are not residents of Sutton, before the end of January 2016 and the winner’s name published in the spring edition of the Spotlight.

Good Luck
