QUEENS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS: As part of the Queen’s Birthday celebrations a programme outlining the event has been formulated. Flyers with full details should be circulated around the village soon, if not already. The event is scheduled to take place on Sunday 5th June in and around Sutton Village Hall and should commence at approximately 11:00am with a bell ringing session from Sutton Bell Ringers.
A Family Circus Fun session will commence in a marquee in the Village Hall grounds at 11:30am. Various other activities will be ongoing during the day.
Sutton Village School choir will be on hand to sing “Happy Birthday” to H.M. the Queen at approximately 3:00pm. Judging the best crown Competition will take place.
Live entertainment will follow when well-known local Rock ‘n’ Blues group “Catch 23” band take the stage to keep the party going. Refreshments, scones and cream teas, will be served throughout the day with glasses of “Pimms” and teas and coffees available. Bouncy castle, competitions and various games will keep most visitors happy.
All attractions are free on the day with the exception of bar purchases!! The event is sponsored by Sutton Parish Council and organised in conjunction with the Village Hall committee and friends.
Come along, bring the family and celebrate the Monarch’s 90th birthday, make it a day to remember!!
PIPES AND DRUMS: Are you interested in music? Then come along and learn to play the bagpipes or drums. Retford and Bassetlaw District Pipes and Drums meet every Wednesday evening at Barnby Moor Village Hall, Kennel Drive, Barnby Moor, DN22 8QU at 7:15 pm.

COFFEEE MORNING: The coffee morning went ahead as planned on Saturday 21st May in the Village Hall from 10:00am until 12:30pm.
CLEANER ALL ROUND: Observant villagers will have noticed how clean and tidy the grass verges in the village have appeared over the last few months. This is due to the continuous efforts of Station Road resident Susanna M. Edwards who has taken on this onerous task on a voluntary basis. Susanna is out there fair weather of foul sometimes accompanied by her better half Mark, another willing volunteer, litter picking and doing a general tidy up of the village as they go along.
Various residents have stopped the volunteers and thanked them personally. The Parish Council have written a letter of appreciation for the good work carried out, thanking them for their input and their attempts at keeping the village clean and tidy. Long may it continue.
A SERVICE OF CELEBRATION: A service to celebrate Mr Bryan Birkett’s 50 years of dedicated service to the church as Tower Captain will be held on Sunday 10th July at 3:00pm. The Right Reverend Tony Porter, Bishop of Sherwood, will be the guest preacher.
Bryan, as Tower Captain, has been responsible for the ringing of the church bells at Sutton which have played an important part in many weddings, funerals, special occasions and church services as well as being host to visiting ringers. Sutton bells are popular among ringers in the area who descend on St Bartholomew’s on a Wednesday evening for practice night to ring their melodies for the village’s pleasure.
Residents are invited to the special service which will be followed by light refreshments. Anyone wanting to attend are asked to contact the church to make them aware for catering purposes no later than 1st June.

SUTTON ART GROUP: The Art Group has arranged a visit to Salford Quays and the Lowry Gallery on Sunday 3rd July leaving at 9:00am and for the return journey leaving Salford at 4:00pm – only £13 per person. Entry to the Gallery is free.
