ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: On Sunday 20th November “Holy Communion” will take place at the local church.

SUTTON ART GROUP ANNUAL EXHIBITION: The 2016 Annual Exhibition is in Sutton Village Hall [DN22 8PT] on Saturday 19th November from 11:00am to 4:00pm. Admission & parking are free.
Everyone is welcome to view. Tea and biscuits will be available. The Gate Inn is 100 yards away and you could enjoy a nice lunch there. Some paintings are for sale and you may find a great Christmas present. Don’t miss this interesting exhibition and pop in even if you only have 10 minutes to spare, it’s well worth it. Please come along and support your local artists.
The group continue to meet every Friday morning throughout the year in the Village Hall, 10:00am – 12noon.
NETWORKRAIL: The latest information from NetworkRail indicates that they need to undertake essential improvement works to erect new fencing behind properties on Station Road in the village, in the vicinity of the Sutton and Barnby Moor level crossing East Coast mainline. These improvements are a vital part of a strategy to deliver a better railway system throughout the country. The fencing adjacent to these properties has been risk assessed by NetworkRail’s Lineside Engineers and as a result, need to be renewed.
The work will involve removing the existing railway boundary fence, and replace it with a new 1.5m high steel post and wire fencing with stock netting fence. Some locations may require the removal of fly tipping/debris and the cutting of vegetation to allow the new fencing to be erected.
The workforce will be operating over three Sundays, starting on Sunday 13th November between the hours of 00:01 to 07:30. NetworkRail apologise for any inconvenience these workings may cause.
COMPUTER CLUB: Computer Sessions began on Monday 14th November from 1:00pm until 3:00pm at the Village Hall. The cost is £5.00 per person, payable at the event.

MOBILE LIBRARY: The dates for the Mobile Library visits to the village have been arranged for the New Year (2017) and are as follows. The van will visit the village on the 4th Monday of each month, commencing Monday 30th January 2017 and will stop at the following locations:

- 46 Station Road (10:00am)
- 22 Station Road. (10:10am)
- Town Street (10:25am)
- Portland Meadows (10:45am)
- Portland Place Garages (10:55am)
Visiting days will be notified each month.
GARDENING CLUB MEETING: The Gardening Club meeting on the 1st November was treated to a talk by Steve Lovell on Shrubs and Landscape Design. Steve was personable, knowledgeable, eloquent and informative with a huge range of images and gardening tips. The images were of a quality you would expect of a photographer like Steve who travels the world to capture wild life.
The next meeting is a gardening quiz in January – watch out for more information.
QUIZ NIGHT AT THE GATE INN: Another well attended event at the local hostelry on Sunday 13th November when more teams gathered for the ever popular quiz night. After a close-fought contest the winners were declared as “The Neighbours” who took the cash prize on offer. A real fun night in a contest filled with good humour and banter even the losers went home happy.
Same again on Sunday at The Gate with an 8’oclock start!
MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: The neighbours group met of Tuesday 8th November at 1:00pm at The Gate Inn, Sutton. After an excellent meal various activities took place.
Today we had a pretty full house with 45 people attending even though some regulars were missing. The food was very good and the beef especially so. The beef reminded members of the much acclaimed Cow Pie which they have become used too over the past few weeks. The raffle was extensive and one person who bought 6 tickets won 5 prizes – what a sport he was in not claiming the bottle of Merlot wine.
Please do not forget to ensure your name is down for the special Xmas MTNs on 13 December. I know many of you did so at today’s meeting “What a DO this promises to be says organiser Joan Reiter. Time 5:00pm to 7:00pm with lots of fun included. Musical entertainment provided by Thorsby Brass Band from 6:00pm and probably a soloist and duet from Portland Meadows people! Food by resident local chef Kieran – A wonderful Xmas Buffet for ONLY £5.00 PER HEAD and a Grand Raffle, don’t delay book today!
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: When the group met on Wednesday 16th November, in Sutton Village Hall, speaker Janet Peto addressed the members on the subject “Hedgehog Welfare Rescue Trust”. Members old and new always welcome.

VILLAGE HALL COMMITTEE: As plans for refurbishment of the village hall continues, members have approached our County Councillor Mrs Liz Yates for a grant towards help with the cost of upgrade and improvements. This has been granted in principal and a sum agreed. Further details will follow when to hand.
