ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: “Morning Prayer” will take place at the local church on Sunday 7th May.

The service starts at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.

TABLE TOP AND CAR BOOT SALE: Another sale will take place on Sunday 7th May at the Village Hall from 10:00am – 12:00noon (9:00am for sellers). £5.00 per pitch, limited indoor tables

SUTTON PARISH COUNCIL: The next meeting of the Parish Council will take place on Wednesday 10th May at the usual time of 7:00pm in the Village Hall. This will be the Annual Parish Council meeting.

MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: The next meeting of the Neighbours group is scheduled for Wednesday 10th May at the Gate Inn for 12:30pm to dine at 1:00pm approximately.

GATE INN COFFEE MORNING: Coffee Morning at the Gate Inn is on Thursdays, from 9:00am until 12:00noon. Coffee and cake £3.50. Refills available. Further details available from the Gate inn on (01777) 709 408.

SUTTON VILLAGE HALL COMMITTEE: The Village Hall Committee met as scheduled on Tuesday 26th April at the Village Hall. This was the groups’ AGM as previously notified.

A new committee was formed on this occasion with the major post being held by the following:

  • Previous chairman Chris Sulley was returned to the post
  • Judy Walters was appointed secretary
  • Jane Sulley looking after finances
  • other positions remain unchanged.

Former committee members, Charmaine Perry, Mavis and Frank Bradley stood down on this occasion after many years of loyal service. Former secretary Kathryn Seddon’s also stood down but will remain on the committee. Newly elected chair Chris Sulley thanked retiring members for their input over many years.

ANNUAL PARISH MEETING: The Annual Parish Meeting took place in the village hall on Thursday 27th April at 7:00pm. Various representative were present on the night including: Parish Council who were only too pleased to answer any issues or concerns that you may have had. The Chair of the Neighbourhood Planning Group was also present to give an update on the latest position and answer any questions.

During the drop in session about 40 people were in attendance, and were able to find out the latest on the test borehole at Barnby Moor which is to evaluate the commercial possibilities of extracting shale gas by fracking. There was also be a display from various community groups in the village, including Neighbourhood Watch, Gardening Club, Meet the Neighbours and an input from the local school amongst others. Refreshments of wine and cheese was provided for those attending.

ANNUAL LITTER PICK: A good turn-out for the annual litter pick saw a team of community minded residents set off from the Village Hall to give the village a spring clean, armed with equipment supplied by the District Council. Upon return all were treated by the Parish Council to a cuppa and piece of cake at a resurrected coffee morning in the Village Hall. Thanks to the volunteers who were Fraser and Lindsay Innes, Izzy Summers, Rob Boeuf, Sue Ashcroft, Mark and Cheryl Hepplestone, Theresa Abel, Nigel and Hayley Johnson, David Mowthorpe, Chris and Jenny Bailey.

VILLAGE HALL COFFEE MORNING: The coffee morning went ahead as planned with a slightly different format, with a fairly good attendance considering it was the first of its type with more planned for the future. The added attraction of the Curiosity Corner seem to attract a bit of attention and will probably feature at other session as and when they take place. Profits from the events are destined for Village Hall funds and the organisers would like to thank villagers for their support.

GATE INN QUIZ NIGHT: There was a lot of friendly banter on Sunday night as Steph presented a tough quiz which was eventually won by her own team who scooped the £40 prize. Half time brought a game of music bingo with Ken winning the line prize and Phil the full house. Both picked up a bottle of house wine as the prize. As usual the cards were possessed and no one picked up the £200 prize on offer which rolls on to next Sunday. Quiz starts at 8:00pm and everybody is welcome.

COMPUTER CLUB: Computer sessions continue at the Village Hall on Mondays from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at a cost of £5.00 person. Reserve a place by emailing: Lesley.parks@hotmail.co.uk or call (01777) 707 153 or 07929 352 753.

SUTTON VILLAGE HALL COMMITTEE: The committee met on Tuesday 25th April in the Village Hall and a report will follow.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The committee of the local association met on Wednesday 26th April at the usual time of 2:30pm and a report will follow.

SUTTON AND BARNBY MOOR WI: Sutton and Barnby Moor W.I. meet on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at Sutton Village Hall at 7:15pm. Members old and new always welcome.
