ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: On Sunday10th June, “Holy Communion” will take place at the local church.

The service starts at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.

JUST A MATTER OF TIME: Station Road in the village was closed to traffic for a period on the afternoon of Friday 1st June, when an incident occurred between a 30cwt van and a level crossing barrier.

At approximately 3:00pm a van travelling in a westerly direction towards Barnby Moor was in collision with the railway crossing barriers, which were detached from their mountings and left lying across the track which is the main East Coast line to London. The driver was shocked at the collision stating that the barrier went up and immediately came back down as he attempted to cross the track catching on the roof rack on top of his van. Other barriers remained in place and red warning lights kept flashing and traffic began to build up, some deciding to do a u-turn and find another route out of the village.

A concerned resident on Station Road rang the Networkrail emergency number to advise of the situation, but they were already aware as failsafe mechanisms had already been activated, and a rapid response unit from Doncaster, was on its way to the scene. Trains did proceed along this section of the track but only at 5mph.

Within 15 minutes the response team had arrived and took control of the situation. Police were also on the scene and the road was closed for about and hour and a half whilst the necessary repair work was carried out, allowing the system to work as normal. Thanks to Networkrail for a speedy repair to the apparatus and bringing the situation to a safe and satisfactory conclusion a soon as possible.
