
ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: At the local church on Sunday 15th July, “A Family Service” will take place. Please come along and bring the family.
The service starts at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.
FAMILY NIGHT: Friday night is “Family Night” at the Village Hall, so come along and have a good night out, and don’t forget to bring the family! 7:00pm start. Bar open! All welcome.
FAMILY FUN DAY: Final preparations are taking place for the Family Fun Day which is scheduled for Sunday 22nd July and is being organised by Sutton School PTFA. Details are available from from organisers in the village.
POST BOX: The post box on the village green (junction of Sutton Lane and Station Road) is now operational! Although in situ since before Christmas the box has been sealed and unable to receive letters since its installation. Enquiries from Parish Council, District Council and many villagers fell on deaf ears. Various unbelievable excuses over a few months from the operators did not help. At last the matter has been put right and It is hoped the new box will now be used by villagers and be an asset to the community.
QUIZ NIGHT: Sunday night is Quiz night at the Village Hall. Come along and compete and try to win cash prizes on offer. Have you got a team that can beat the regulars? Worth a try! 8:00pm start. Good luck!
SUTTON PARISH COUNCIL: Due to unforeseen circumstances i.e. England in the semi – finals of the World Cup, on Wednesday 11th July, it was decided that Parish Council Meeting should cancelled. The next meeting will be on August 8th.
NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: Due to the unavailability of committee members the monthly meeting of the local committee had to be cancelled. Watch out for these fake Argos texts offering refunds
These fake text messages purport to be from Argos and claim that you’re owed a refund. The link in the messages lead to phishing websites designed to steal your personal information, as well as payment details. Always question unsolicited requests for your personal or financial information in case it’s a scam. Never automatically click on a link in an unexpected email or text.
SUTTON GARDENING CLUB: The gardening club met as scheduled on Tuesday 5th July, but this time at their new venue, Barnby Moor village hall at the usual starting time of 7:15pm. A good turn out for the group with one or two new faces attending on the night, who were made welcome!
Another good and informative meeting with our guest speaker Chrissy Grindle talking about and demonstrating propagation techniques relating to soft wood cuttings. Several members were taking cuttings to pot on for either their own gardens or the show in July.
The gardening club stall at the great Sutton show is almost upon us, being Sunday 22nd July from 10:00am to 3:00pm. We still need volunteers please throughout the day, but particularly at the end of the show to help clear up; if you could spare an hour or so it would be appreciated! If you have plants and /or produce for us to sell and to make a hamper to raffle off on the Sunday- you can either bring it on the Sunday direct to the stall first thing, or Roger Bird or Jenny Bailey will be available to collect your wares on the Saturday 21st July between 10:00am and 12:00pm at the Village Hall in Sutton-cum-Lound.
Please note that there will be no gardening club meeting in August. The next meeting is Tuesday 4th September at 11:00am at Walkers garden centre (meet outside the shop entrance). There will be a tour of the garden by the owner. If you to stay afterwards and purchase any goods/foods/ restaurant foods you are free to do so.
The meeting in October will be in the Barnby Moor village hall, Kennel Drive. Between now and then, the committee and members of the gardening club are securing quality prizes for the Christmas raffle. Once we have these secured, raffle tickets will be printed and distributed for members to sell up until the raffle date which will be held at the Christmas meal.

YOUTH CLUB: The Youth Club continues to meet on a Tuesday night from 7:30 to 8:30 in the Village Hall and new members are welcome.
