ST BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH
On Sunday 2nd December an “Advent Carol Service” will take place at the local church, but at the earlier time of 9:15am. The earlier time is to allow the local vicar, the Reverend Cora Yarrien, extra travelling time as she moves between the united benefices in her charge, now numbering nine in total! Quite a challenge. Could worshippers please help the incumbent by noting the new time and help her to donate time to conduct a service for others.
Services will now commence at 9:15am please, unless stated otherwise.
SCOUTS CHRISTMAS POST
Retford Area Christmas Post stamps went on sale on Saturday 24th November and the final collections will be on Sunday 16thDecember. Each stamp will cost you 35 pence regardless of the size of your card! Look out for shops and businesses that will be selling stamps and have a post box. If your card is correctly addressed within the advertised area, and that those delivering can access the properties letter box, your card will be delivered by Christmas eve at the latest. All deliveries are undertaken by volunteers and all profits are returned to the scout groups involved in the scheme. Please give them your support! CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING
The tree lighting ceremony will take place on Saturday 1st December at 5:30pm on the village green at the junction of Station Road and Town Street.
DOG WALK
PLEASE NOTE The community dog walk scheduled Sunday 2nd December has unfortunately had to be cancelled, partly due to lack of support and commitment, plus the extra pressures that arrives with the approach of the festive season. Many dog owners along with other villagers having various other appointments to fulfil in the run up to Christmas and beyond.
GARDENING CLUB
Anyone wishing to go to the Christmas table decoration / swag / wreath workshop on the 4th December, led by Sally Barker, will need to pay £5.00 per person at November’s meeting to book their place as this is a ticket only event. Please also book at this November’s meeting for the Christmas meal which is on Saturday 8th December and will be £15.00 per person. Can all stubs and raffle monies be given to treasurer by 4th December at the latest please, as the tickets will have to be folded in preparation for the draw at the meal on 8th December.
The first meeting in the new year will be Tuesday 8th January 2019 (as the first Tuesday of the month is the 1st January, and although members are keen, none of them wish a meeting on New Year’s Day!) This meeting will be the annual quiz and will be held again in Barnby Moor village hall. Future meetings will revert to the first Tuesday of the month, unless otherwise stated.

CAROL SINGING
Carol singing will take place at the Village Hall on Thursday 20th December, at 7:30pm. Please wrap up warm and be in good voice. Everybody welcome!
SUTTON AND BARNBY MOOR WI
When the ladies of the local WI met on Wednesday 21st November in Sutton Village Hall at 7:15pm, it was the groups 70th anniversary meeting! Approximately 50 people were in attendance on the night with members from neighbouring WI’s supporting their peers. Guests were from Blyth, Ranskill, Grove and Clarborough institutes.
The speaker for the evening addressed the ladies on a collection of biscuits and sweet tins from many years ago, some quite valuable, others only of value to the collector. The items on display, were from sweet and confectionary firms based in Doncaster. Nuttals Minto’s and Parkinson’s shortbread being amongst some of the better-known ones featured. A cooked meal and a sweet was served to the members, prepared and served by the committee. A raffle was held and those in attendance received a commemorative gift to celebrate the occasion! Seventy Years and still going strong!!
MEET THE NEIGHBOURS
The Neighbours Group met on Wednesday 21st November at 1:15 in the Village Hall, and a group of over 40 people were in attendance. Once again local chef Nigel Bower was on hand to provide a very tasteful meal followed by a sweet. The usual raffle took place and a picture quiz was attempted with high scoring results from various quarters of the room. Tea and coffee followed as diners socialised for the rest of the afternoon. Another successful event bringing the rural communities together, thanks to Joan Reiter and her team.
BARNBY MOOR FUNDRAISER
The coffee morning held at Barnby Moor village hall on behalf of the recent Indonesian tsunami disaster was a success! The total raised from this event was announced as £234 and was forwarded to British Red Cross Society. This will go towards helping those most in need, providing food and shelter and perhaps even saving lives. Well done to all concerned! A great effort. YOUTH CLUB
The Youth Club continue to meet during term time on a Tuesday night in the Village Hall (except for the first Tuesday in the month) from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. New members are always welcome.
QUIZ NIGHT
The quiz continues to take place in the Village Hall every Sunday night, £1.00 entry per person which is paid back as prize money! The bigger the crowd – the bigger the prize! New contestants always welcome. 8:00pm start and bar open.
