ST BARTHOLOMEWS’ CHURCH

CONFUSED??

People in the village and surrounding area are quietly confident that the recent explorations by Igas at Tinker Lane in Blyth have proved negative! The company have confirmed that investigative drillings at the site have failed to find any shale gas and they will be leaving to go to another site on Springs Road in Misson. The site has attracted controversy over the past few months from various sources in and around the area.

There have been a number of conflicting or confusing press reports about the Tinker Lane site over the past couple of months. Take your pick of these from:

NETWORKRAIL

Further details received from Network Rail indicate that more essential workings will take place next week at Barnby Moor and Sutton level crossing on Station Road in the village. The workings will commence on Wednesday 27th February from 00:15am until Thursday 28th February at 5:30am. This may mean closure of the road during these times. The company apologise for any inconvenience caused by these essential workings.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH

The Neighbourhood Watch have posted details of various scams that are doing the rounds. Residents are asked to remain vigilant, and report anything suspicious on the Police non-emergency number 101.

MOBILE LIBRARY VAN

The library van will visit the village on Monday 25th February 2019 stopping at the usual places:

GARDENING CLUB

Members are reminded that the gardening club will meet on Tuesday 5th March at Barnby Moor village hall at the usual time of 7:15pm. On this occasion Janet Peto will address the group on “Hedgehog Welfare”. Visitors are welcome to attend, a small cover charge applies.

PARISH LUNCH

A group of fifteen people attended the first (of hopefully many) parish lunches held at the Gate Inn the local hostelry in the village. The group enjoyed an excellent meal in convivial company organised by Joan Herrington with the reverend Cora Yarrien in attendance.

Another date has been provisionally arranged for Friday 15th March at the usual time of 12:00noon, (any change to be notified.) Any parishioner wishing to attend please contact PCC secretary Janet Webb on (01777)  818 682 for further details.   An event not to be missed.

SUTTON AND BARNBY MOOR W.I.

When the ladies of the local W.I .met on Wednesday 20th February in Sutton Village Hall at 7:15pm, guest speaker Jan Palmer instructed the group how to make handmade soap. A variety of soaps were offered for sale on the night. The usual raffle took place during the evening and members brought along a small gift for the event.

PARISH COUNCIL

Sutton Parish Council held their  monthly meeting as scheduled on Wednesday 13th February 2019 in the Village Hall, at the usual starting time of 7:00pm. Seven councillors present on the night, apologies received for those unable to attend. Clerk to the council, Nigel Johnson, was on hand to record the happenings, with Councillor Tracey Taylor in attendance for help and advice if required.

From the floor a villager asked why Bassetlaw District Council take so long to announce the results of planning decisions?   Councillor Tracey Taylor will look into the matter. Various matters were raised during the evening including, parking and safety issues outside the local school. There was an update from neighbourhood watch group and the CLG group.

CHURCH SERVICE

The Family Service scheduled for Sunday 17th February, the third Sunday before lent, went ahead as planned. Worshippers gathered at 9:15am to receive a warm welcome from Officiant Joan Herrington in readiness for the service proper which commenced at 9:30am. Official notices were given out, of which there were many! Those present were reminded to renew their applications to be included in the Parochial Electrol Roll. The Gospel on this occasion was read by Janet Webb. The intercession: Janet Webb – Organist: Geof Webb. Various hymns were sung throughout the service. The gathering remained after the service for refreshments and socialised with their peers.

YOUTH CLUB

The Youth Club continue to meet during term time on a Tuesday night in the Village Hall (except for the first Tuesday in the month) from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. New members are always welcome.

QUIZ NIGHT

The quiz continues to take place in the Village Hall every Sunday night, £1.00 entry per person which is paid back as prize money! The bigger the crowd – the bigger the prize! New contestants always welcome. 8:00pm start and bar open.
