ST. BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH

The service on Sunday 15th September is a “Family Service” commencing at the usual time of 9:15am. Please come along and bring the family – everyone is welcome!

FRIENDS OF DANESHILL LAKES

The Friends of Daneshill Lakes have organized some special events to entice visitors to learn even more about the Reserves wildlife.

Bat Evening – Friday 13th September, 7:00pm to 9:30 pm: Discover and learn about these amazing flying mammals of the night with our bat expert Michael Walker of the Notts Wildlife Trust. Bat detectors will be available to share but bring your own torch. Meet in the main car park at Daneshill Lakes at 7:00 pm.

MEET THE NEIGHBOURS

The next meeting of the ‘Neighbours Group ‘is on Wednesday 18th September when diners can enjoy Steak & Ale pie, Sauté potatoes, peas, sweet corn, and carrots, followed by Lemon Mousse and shortbread biscuits for only £7.00 per person.

Please contact organizer Joan Reiter on (01777) 818 492 to secure your place, or email mtn@suttoncumlound.net. After the meal diners are invited to remain for the now customary raffle and test their knowledge should a simple quiz take place. Be prepared!

SUTTON AND BARNBY MOOR W.I.

When the ladies next meet on Wednesday 18th September in Sutton Village Hall at the usual time of 7:15pm they can listen to a presentation on Travels to North Carolina by speaker Kevin Lennox. You are welcome to join them! Members old and new always welcome!

PARISH LUNCHES

Please note that the Parish Lunch for September took place on Tuesday 10th September at the Gate Inn at 12:00noon. This was a week earlier than advertised but changed to avoid clashing with other events in the village. NB: a small contribution is made to the current building fund after each lunch session.

Details of the lunches which occur approximately every six weeks are available from Church Warden Janet Webb on (01777) 818 682 or Lay reader Joan Herrington on (01302) 742 562 or please just call in to the venue on the date announced.

CHURCH SERVICE

On Sunday 8th September, “Holy Communion” took place at the local church commencing at the usual time of 9:15am. The Service was conducted by the local vicar Revd Cora Yarrien. A Reasonable turnout on this occasion despite many attendees being away on holiday. Following the service worshippers were invited to remain for refreshments.

GARDENING CLUB

The group met on Tuesday 3rd September at Barnby Moor Village Hall, Kennel Drive at 7:15pm when Annette Mackenzie from the Hawk and Owl trust made a return visit bringing her live owl Eric with her to meet the group Annette bought her live owl Eric with her, Eric was a Little Owl and quite a character. The talk on the world of owls, was very interesting, and made us aware how the numbers of owls are falling due to the decline of their habitat. October’s meeting will be taken by Patrick Harding. The subject will be stories about wild and garden plants. Another date for your diary – don’t miss it! QUIZ NIGHT

The quiz continues to take place in the Village Hall every Sunday night, £1.00 entry per person which is paid back as prize money! The bigger the crowd – the bigger the prize! New contestants always welcome. Following the quiz “Play your cards right” – Cash Prize! Can you beat the local teams? Come along and try. 8:00pm start and bar open.

We also have the Sutton Spotlight, which goes out to every house in the village on a quarterly (ish) basis. Space is sometimes limited, so try to get your entry in early.

We’re also lucky to have a village Journalist who collates news and updates for the Retford Times on a weekly basis. Get your copy in on Monday morning for the Thursday issue.

All our website updates are also sent down the village “X formerly Twitter” feed, @SuttonCumLound. So, follow us there for these and other items in and around our area.
