ST. BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: The service on Sunday 27th October is “Worship for All” and commences at the usual time of 9:15am. and again everyone is welcome.

EAST COAST RAIL: Observant villagers may have noticed trains stopped or running slow approaching the crossing on Station Road in the village this week. Lincolnshire Live reports the incident here.

LIONS THANKS: Church officials and members of the congregation would like to thank both Retford Lions and North Notts Lions for their joint support and kind donation of a quantity of daffodil bulbs for planting in church grounds and surrounding areas. It is hoped to plant these in the vicinity of the present car parking facilities and the boundary wall of the church. Something to look for forward to next spring thanks to the charitable efforts of Lions Clubs. Greatly appreciated!

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The committee of the local association will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday 30th October at the usual time of 2:30pm.

LEVEL CROSSING NIGHT CLOSURES: Please be aware that nightly closures are planned for the Station Road Level Crossing, Sutton commencing on Sunday 3rd November to Thursday 7th November 2019. See here for details.

To coincide with these, there also will be nightly closures on the Sutton Lane crossing at Babworth. See here for details.

GARDENING CLUB: The next meeting of the gardening club will take place on Tuesday 5th November in Barnby Moor village hall at the usual time of 7:15pm. On this occasion Corin Tomlinson will address the group on the subject of growing and care of Bonsai. PARISH COUNCIL MEETING: The council met at the re-scheduled date and time as notified, on Wednesday 23rd October at the usual time of 7:00pm in Sutton Village Hall. A report will follow when to hand.

CHURCH SERVICE: A “Family Service” took place at the local church on Sunday 20th October. The officiant on this occasion was lay reader Joan Herrington. Readings from the Gospel were performed by Fiona Pagdin, prayers by Janet Webb. Organist: Geof Webb. Another enlightening service enjoyed by those present.

The church treasurer was pleased to give an update of the current Building Fund Growth. The latest balance stands at £16,000 and a copy of the submissions was available for inspection on the day. Please contact the treasurer should you wish to donate to the fund.

MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: The neighbours group met for lunch on Wednesday 16th October as scheduled with forty plus joining their peers for lunch. In the absence of organizer Joan Reiter (Holiday) proceedings were in the capable hands of Margaret Boreham and local chef and caterer Nigel Bower, who conducted the event in a satisfactory manner, with assistance from David Mowthorpe the usual programme was adhered to. A simple quiz was held relating to parts of the body and again scoring was very high for this event. This was followed once again by the now customary raffle which took place with draw master Fred Payne officiating.

QUIZ NIGHT: The quiz continues to take place in the Village Hall every Sunday night, £1.00 entry per person which is paid back as prize money! The bigger the crowd – the bigger the prize! New contestants always welcome. Following the quiz “Play your cards right” – Cash Prize! Can you beat the local teams? Come along and try. 8:00pm start and bar open.


YOUTH CLUB: The Youth Club continue to meet on a Tuesday night from 6:00pm to 7:00pm in the Village Hall (except for the first Tuesday in the month). New members are always welcome.

MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: The group continue to meet at Sutton Village Hall on the second Wednesday of each month for a communal lunch. Further details about the group and its activities are available from group leader Joan Reiter on (01777) 702 137.

SUTTON APRIL CLUB: The April club continue to meet every two weeks in the village and full details are available from Group Leader and organiser Carole Head on (01777) 705 077.

SUTTON AND BARNBY MOOR WI: Sutton and Barnby Moor W.I. meet on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at Sutton Village Hall at 7:15pm. Members old and new always welcome.
