CHURCH SERVICE

A good turn-out at the local church on Sunday 5th January 2020, considering the number of parishioners away during the festive season and those set to return in the next few days. A very warm welcome awaited worshippers on the day as they looked forward to celebrating Epiphany. (Epiphany is, as you are aware, a Christian feast day that celebrates the revelation of God incarnate as Jesus Christ in Western Christianity.) Officiant Joan Herrington was pleased to conduct the service ably assisted by worship leader Janet Webb. The incumbent herself returning after undergoing major surgery, was full of the joys of the New Year and looking forward to the New Decade and full of the Holy Spirit, which was absorbed by those present. The service commenced with the giving out of parish notices (of which there was quite a few) and wishes for a happy and healthy New Year to everyone. This was followed by the general welcome and opening prayer. Various hymns and readings took place with members of the congregation taking part. These were performed by: Monica Hockenhull, Janet Webb, Shirley Rees, an Epiphany Prayer was delivered by Fiona Pagdin. Readings for today continued as Rosemary Woodgate narrated from Matthew 2. (1-12) Prayers were led by Janet Webb and the final words were spoken by Lynne Tweed. A concluding prayer and blessing brought the service to a close. The gathering were invited to remain for refreshments and to socialize after the event.

MEET THE NEIGHBOURS

For those not aware it has been announced that founder member and organizer of the Meet the Neighbours group, Joan Reiter has decide to step down from the post as leader after 20 years of dedicated service to the group and the community as a whole. The group will continue as before, in the capable hands of Margaret Boreham and Brian Seddons. It is hoped that residents will offer the same degree of support to the new leaders, (who are no strangers to the group) and allow the event to flourish as before. Joan will hopefully be popping in on odd occasions as and when time allows to socialise with old friends. Well done Joan! A village stalwart over many years and a hard act to follow.

QUIZ NIGHT

The quiz continues to take place in the Village Hall every Sunday night, £1.00 entry per person which is paid back as prize money! The bigger the crowd – the bigger the prize! New contestants always welcome. Following the quiz “Play your cards right” – Cash Prize! Can you beat the local teams? Come along and try. 8:00pm start and bar open.
