ST. BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH

On Sunday 1st March (First Sunday in Lent) the service will be “Songs of Praise” and will commence at the usual time of 9:15am and again everyone is welcome!

GARDENING CLUB

The next meeting of the Sutton and Barnby Moor Gardening Club will be held on Tuesday March 3rd. This will be the Club’s AGM commencing at 7:15pm at Barnby Moor village hall. Following the AGM there will be wine, soft drinks and nibbles and an opportunity to purchase garden paraphernalia and plants donated. CHURCH SERVICE

On Sunday 23rd February 2020, Sunday before lent a service of  “Worship for All” took place at the local church. The service started at 9:15am and in the absence of the vicar and Lay Reader Joan Herrington the proceedings were conducted by Worship Leader Janet Webb. Musical accompaniment was again provided by a trusty CD player as local organist Geof Webb was unable to attend due to illness. The congregation wished him a speedy recovery! After a warm welcome and the opening hymn, a gospel reading took place: Matthew 17.  1<>9 and was narrated by Shirley Stokes! Prayers were led  by Janet Webb and a selection of hymns were sung during the service. As the service was brought to a close worshippers were invited to remain for refreshments, served by members of the congregation (who are on duty every Sunday).

On Wednesday 26th February, “Ash Wednesday” a service took place at 1:00pm. “Imposition of the Ashes”, Ash Wednesday is a Christian holy day of prayer and fasting. It is preceded by Shrove Tuesday and falls on the first day of Lent, the six weeks of penitence before Easter.

SUTTON AND BARNBY MOOR W.I.

When the ladies of the Sutton and Barnby Moor W.I. met on Wednesday 19th February it was classed as a “Games Night”. This is the event when the ladies vie with each other to see who will be best all rounder at the end of the night. Games included: Whist, Uno, Rummmikub  to name but a few! Then, of course, the usual raffle took place for fabulous prizes!

MEET THE NEIGHBOURS

A group of almost 50 people turned up for the monthly Meet the Neighbours group on Wednesday 19th February. After greeting each other and settling in diners were soon tucking in to a meal (describe by locals as Excellent Cuisine) provide by local Chef and Caterer Nigel Bower. Front of house organiser Brian Seddons gave out latest village news and notices and after an excellent meal and during the coffee / tea break drawmaster Fred Payne conducted the usual raffle that takes place, with a plethora of prizes on offer this week, all donated and ready to be won. On completion of the meal Fred Payne asked for a vote of thanks for the chef and all the helpers who volunteer at each session. Well done to all concerned! Previous organiser Joan Reiter was able to join diners on this occasion and see the proceedings from the other side of the camera.

QUIZ NIGHT

If you are a Brain of Britain, Knowledge Lump, a Mastermind, or just a well-informed person, you are more than welcome to come along and try to out-wit the regulars on our village Quiz Night. The quiz continues to take place in the Village Hall every Sunday night, £1.00 entry per person which is paid back as prize money! The bigger the crowd – the bigger the prize! New contestants always welcome. Following the quiz “Play your cards right” – Cash Prize! Can you beat the local teams? Come along and try. 8:00pm start and bar open.
