On Sunday 24th October, the last Sunday after Trinity, a service of “Worship for All” took place at the local church at the usual time 9:30am. The Officiant on this occasion was Licensed Lay Leader Joan Herrington. Gospel readings were from Mark 10: 46-52, Intercessions: Janet Webb, Organist Geof Webb.
Next week’s service will be a benefice service on Sunday 31st October 2021 with “Holy Communion” starting at 9:30am. A Remembrance Sunday Service will take place on Sunday 7th November at the later time of 10:15am.
NETWORK RAIL
The following communication has been received from Network Rail:
Workings will be taking place between Torworth Level Crossing and Barnby Moor and Sutton Level Crossing. To carry out this work they will be using an on-track Unimog machine with chipper, chainsaws, pole saws and site lights. This is to enable the workforce to clear vegetation from around the overhead structures and make sure that trees / vegetation don’t cause damage to them leading to delays in train services. They will be working from Wednesday 3rd November from 01:30 to 05:15 and on Thursday 4th November again from 01:30 – 05:15. Network Rail apologizes for any inconvenience caused during these necessary improvement workings.
SUTTON & BARNBY MOOR W.I.
Sutton and Barnby Moor WI have agreed, after great deal of soul searching and deliberation, to change their present meeting times from 7:15pm on Wednesday evenings to the earlier time of 2:00pm on Wednesday afternoons. These new times will apply from Wednesday 17th November until further notice and the venue remains the same, Sutton Village Hall. This will apply for the winter months and will be reviewed again in due course.
MEET THE NEIGHBOURS
The Neighbours Group met on Thursday 21st of October for the first time this year. A group of 30 plus were in attendance and joined their peers for a meal of excellent cuisine provided by local chef and caterer Nigel Bower. This was a great opportunity for residents to catch up with friends and neighbours and exchange news and views from around the area. Many had not met over the last eighteen months due to Covid restrictions. During the meeting our district Councillor Denise Depledge addressed the gathering outlining the work already done and what was to follow in the not too distant future. The usual quiz was attempted, again with high standards being reached as the answers were revealed. A raffle was drawn and a vote of thanks given to the organisers bringing the proceedings to a close about 4:00pm
DISTRICT COUNCILLOR
Denise Depledge our district councillor has been busy in the village and surrounding areas. This month Denise has been involved in meetings with Parish councils, Bassetlaw Council Committees and a trip to Westminster to discuss local issues. The councillor was delighted to attend the Meet the Neighbours group for lunch in the village hall on Thursday and gave a brief outline of her intentions for the future, with some topics already under discussion and some yet to be addressed.
Denise was also delighted to have attended and supported our MP Brendan Clarke-Smith presenting prizes on behalf of Retford Tennis Club. Both took place in Sutton Cum Lound Village Hall. It is hoped that the councillor will be commencing surgeries in the village hall in the near future and residents will be notified accordingly.
