ST. BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH
As the big day approaches, a Carol Service was held at St. Bartholomew’s church on Sunday 19th December (4th Sunday in Advent) at the usual time of 9:30am. The celebrant on this occasion was Lay Reader Joan Herrington, assisted by Worship leader Janet Webb. Readings from the Gospel: Luke 1. 39 – 45. Intercessions: Janet Webb. Organist: Geoff Webb.
On Friday, 24th December, a “Crib Service” will take place at 4:00pm.
On Christmas day, Saturday 25th December, “Holy Communion” will take place at 9:30am. Everyone welcome!
MEET THE NEIGHBOURS
The group met on Thursday 16th December in the Village Hall when a smaller group than usual met for a communal Christmas lunch. Local chef and caterer Nigel Bower once again did everybody proud by providing an excellent meal for those present. A Christmas quiz took place and tea/coffee and mince pies were served to be washed down with the traditional glass of sherry! The raffle was in the capable hands of local resident Fred Payne, who after the customary votes of thanks and seasonal greetings went on to lead the group in a session of Carol Singing, bringing a most enjoyable afternoon to an end.
The next meeting of the group will take place in mid-January, and full details will follow when to hand.
DISTRICT COUNCILLOR
Denise Depledge, our district councillor, has been busy in the village and surrounding areas. She was in attendance at the Meet the Neighbour’s dinner on Thursday 16th December in the village, accompanied by her husband, and spoke to those present. Concerns over speeding in the village have been raised, which the councillor is addressing. Starting soon, the local councillor will be holding surgeries in the Village Hall on a Saturday morning from 9:00am to 10:00am. This will give residents the chance to put forward any concerns or issues on a face to face basis, unless the dreaded Covid intervenes.
