VILLAGE HALL
The Village Hall was again busy on Wednesday night (1st December) when the Environmental Society (Northern Group) held their meeting there at 7:30pm. The speaker on this occasion was introduced by Chairman Paul Wilcock and was none other than wildlife photographer Barbara Meyer who had come to enlighten the group on the subject of Grey Seals. The sea creatures themselves have formed various colonies in and around the British Isles from the north of Scotland to the most southern parts of Cornwall, on the east coast from the borders to Norfolk and Suffolk.
The talk included their habitats and various breeding times, varying considerably from venue to venue. Also discussed was treatment and care of any injuries in the population, breeding habits and life expectancy etc. and the fact that they have now become a protected species. The talk was accompanied by a photographic presentation which was enjoyed by most of the 35-plus members in attendance on the night. A question and answer session followed and was answered to the satisfaction of those present. Group Secretary Adrian Blackburn informed members of any outstanding events or issues affecting the gathering. On completion of the talk a vote of thanks was given and members were treated to tea/coffee and the seasonal mince pies supplied by the society along with every good wish for the festive season.
MEET THE NEIGHBOURS
The next meeting of the neighbours group will be held on Thursday 16th December at the usual time of 1:00pm. This is the groups Christmas dinner. Please let the organisers know if you intend to be present on the day, to help assist with catering requirements.
