Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations 2 – 5 June

Come and join us to celebrate the Queen’s 70-year reign.

A group of willing volunteers have helped Sutton Parish Council to organise events over the extended Bank Holiday weekend to give people the opportunity to come together to mark this momentous occasion.

On Thursday 2 June at 9:00pm, the Platinum Jubilee Beacon lighting will take place on the Village Hall grounds. The official lighting time will be 9:45pm, so come early to get a good spot and enjoy a slice of Jubilee Beacon Tart, a recipe devised specifically for the occasion incorporating ingredients that represent all 4 nations of the UK.

St. Bartholomew’s Church will be holding a Flower Festival across all 4 days, with the church open from 11:00am to 3:00pm every day with refreshments available throughout. Proceeds from this will go to the fund to provide kitchen and toilet facilities at the Grade 1 listed church.

On Sunday 5 June at 9:30am, a Family Service will be held in the church as a tribute to the Queen.

From 12:00 noon on Sunday, 5 June, the Village Hall will host The Big Jubilee Lunch. Bring a picnic and enjoy a relaxed afternoon with family and friends.

There will be music, children’s games, food outlet, ice cream and a licensed bar from 12 noon until 4pm as well as the play park and Games Area for the children.

Everyone welcome!

Gardening Club

Some members of the committee assisted by family and friends have planted up the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Planter which is on the village green. It was quite a task with the planter stored on someone’s drive, 450 litres of compost on another drive, 2 bags of grit at another house, and plants at the nursery. It all came together and is now looking splendid. If there are any volunteers to help water or maintain the planter, please let the club know. Hopefully once settled in, it shouldn’t be a too arduous task as a lot of the plants are drought tolerant and or evergreen and the planter has capillary matting and a wick system so when the planter baskets are topped up the compost remains damp.

Thanks to all concerned.

A few vacancies still exist within the club, please contact: gardeningclub@suttoncumlound.net for further information.

Gardening Club Away Day

The organisers and committee of the club have organised an away day for the group with a visit to RHS Bridgewater to take place on Wednesday 17th August 2022. The cost for the whole trip (return coach and admission to RHS Bridgewater) will be £15.00 per person. There will be a £10.00 per person non-refundable deposit taken in May please, and the balance of £5.00 per person payable in June. Or, if you wish, you can pay the entire £15.00 per person in May! Details of coach times and final arrangements will be circulated nearer the time.
