Speedwatch
Our Speedwatch team were on Mattersey Road between 11:00 and 12:00 on Saturday 18th May 2024. Two vehicles were recorded exceeding the 30 mph limit for the village.
The first vehicle, a Ford Transit, was recorded at 74 mph on Mattersey Road, heading South towards Retford but well inside the village and well into the Speedwatch monitoring zone. When the driver saw the Speedwatch team at the roadside, he braked very hard. It is concerning that a vehicle should be speeding in excess of motorway speeds within the village.
Five minutes later, another vehicle approached, engine screaming as it entered the monitoring zone. There was no attempt at hard braking this time, which was probably just as well, as the vehicle was recorded at 94 mph. Fortunately, there was no-one crossing the road at Church Way/St Bartholomew’s Court. The vehicle slowed considerably as it approached the junction with Town Street.
The Speedwatch team, all volunteers, who out in all sorts of weather attempting to keep our village safe from speeding motorists, are coming up against this situation more and more and have the evidence to prove it! If you would like to support your local team, please contact your recently elected Police Crime Commissioner, make him aware of the recent incident, and await his reactions. He may have already been notified of the situation, but interested parties should contact him to remind him. After all, he reminded you when he wanted your vote! Don’t delay – Do it today!
Keep the village a safer place to live and remind motorists that speeding in Sutton is constantly under review. Please slow down when driving in the village. You know it makes sense! Contact your local Speedwatch team for further information, or visit the website.
Lunches For Locals
On Sunday 16th May, a group of 33 people joined their peers at the Village Hall to enjoy a communal lunch. Not as many in attendance as at previous sittings, but apologies received indicates a lot of residents on holiday, plus one or two missing due to seasonal ailments. Those in attendance were soon meeting up with friends and neighbours, and catching up on all the local news and views from in and around the area. After an enjoyable two-course lunch, official notices were given out and the raffle was drawn. The gathering then socialised for the remainder of the afternoon during the serving of teas and coffees, when a birthday announcement took place, one of the organisers celebrating a big, big birthday. Congratulations Shirley! Thanks must go to the organisers who look after the diners and do an excellent job, but not forgetting our Brian who has the most important task of the afternoon looking after the bar! Thanks all much appreciated.
The next luncheon date is scheduled for Thursday 20th June. Please book early as places are limited!
To secure your place please ring (01777) 854 410 or email lfl@suttonvillagehall.net leaving your name, number you require and contact details. Doors open 12:15 meal served at 1:00pm.
