Sutton And Barnby Moor W.I.

When the ladies of the local W.I. meet on Wednesday 19th June at 2:00pm in Sutton Village Hall, the speaker will address the ladies about Sloswickes Almshouses. Chairman and long-standing Trustee of the charity will inform the ladies, who will be keen to learn more from Tim Shuldham about Sloswickes Almshouse Charity, one of Retford’s oldest institutions. It is governed by a board of trustees, who are all volunteers.

It provides accommodation for people aged over 60 with strong connections with Retford, with a financial or social need that can be addressed by becoming a resident of the affordable, well maintained town centre dwellings. The charity invests a lot of money in keeping its properties modernised, safe and comfortable for its residents, housed in the 46 properties to be found in various central locations in the town.

A very well-presented talk will highlight the need for such much needed housing and the problems encountered in the day to day running of the scheme by the volunteers involved. Part of our local history and a talk not to be missed!
