New Rural Watch

Dear Resident,

Welcome to Rural Watch, a Volunteer Crime Prevention Scheme that helps you make a difference where you live. Rural Watch aims to enhance community safety and support Nottinghamshire Police in areas with limited coverage. Local police maintain regular contact with Rural Watch members to share information and collaborate with you.

To find out more, whether you’re a landowner or a member of the local community, and to sign-up to become a volunteer, please attend Sutton cum Lound Village Hall who have kindly agreed to host us from 6:30pm on Tuesday 14th October 2025.

Objectives:

  • To assist Nottinghamshire Police in rural areas
  • Detect and deter crimes such as theft, poaching, and illegal dumping.
  • To increase feelings of safety by providing reassurance and promoting good citizenship in Nottinghamshire.

How:

  • Patrols will be conducted by a minimum of two people. Participants wear high visibility Rural Watch jackets, making them easily identifiable and enhancing their presence.
  • Members use a dedicated portal to log their patrols and communicate with each other. This helps in organising patrol schedules, reporting incidents, and sharing updates.
  • The primary role of Rural Watch members is to provide a reassuring presence in the community. Their visibility helps deter potential crime and anti-social behaviour.
  • By being present and active in the neighbourhood, they help create a sense of community spirit and solidarity.
  • Rural Watch operates on the principle that good citizens should actively contribute to the safety and well-being of their community rather than being passive.
