ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: “A Sung Eucharist” will be held on Sunday 17th at the local church The service starts at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.
SUTTON SPOTLIGHT: The first edition of the Sutton Spotlight hit the streets of the village last week. The production is a newsletter specifically for the residents of Sutton cum Lound, and contains valuable information along with news and views from in and around the area. Hopefully all villagers will have received a copy by now, if for any reason that is not the case, then please send an email to: news@suttoncumlound.net or telephone 07902 985 871.
The newsletter is funded by Sutton Parish Council, the Parish Plan Steering Group, and is produced by volunteers. It is intended to publish on a quarterly basis and although it is early days’ feedback so far is positive. The views of residents are not compulsory but encouraged and support for the project will be appreciated.
POSTAL SERVICES: The Post Office in the Village Hall will be available as usual on two occasions each week. On Mondays: 9:30am – 1:30pm and on Thursdays 9:00am – 1:00pm. The local office can supply residents with: Pensions, Foreign Currency, Travel Insurance, Car Insurance, Investments and Savings.
CLASSIC CAR SHOW: Final preparations are taking place for the Classic Car Show scheduled for Sunday 17th July, opening to the public at 11:00am.
Entrants have in many cases have been busy with buckets and sponges shampoos and polishes as they prepare their pride and joy for a days outing to this very popular event, now held annually and gaining momentum each year.

PATCH WALK: The Patch Walk scheduled to take place last Thursday 7th July by PCSO 4735 Catherine Phillips had to be cancelled at short notice. This was due to an unforeseen incident arising which took priority on this occasion. This duty will now be re-scheduled and residents will be informed accordingly.
LOCAL COUNCILLOR SURGERY: District and County Councillor Liz Yates will be holding an open surgery at the Sutton cum Lound Village Hall on Thursday 21st July 2011, between the hours of 10:00am and 12:00 noon. This surgery gives you the opportunity to have a chat about any issues, and Liz will provide guidance where appropriate. NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The committee of the local association held their monthly meeting on Tuesday 28th June at Portland Place in the village. Under the heading of Crime Report the chairman referred to an incident concerning damage to a motor vehicle at Portland Bungalows in the village.
Very little crime has been reported in the village in recent times, but residents are advised to remain vigilant. General information is being relayed to the chairman via PCSO Catherine Phillips on a regular basis, keeping the group informed of any criminal activities or incidents occurring in the area.
Information regarding the new Neighbourhood alert system has been received by the group.
In support of Neighbourhood Watch Principles, Nottinghamshire Police are now promoting the use of the new system called Neighbourhood Alert. This system can be accessed on the internet at the following address: www.nottinghamshirealert.co.uk and follow the links for registration.
It is suggested that all co-ordinators with access to computer facilities register with the scheme via the internet as soon as possible.
The Ringmaster System is currently operating as normal and co-ordinators will continue to receive messages as before.
Under any other business, a co-ordinator has produced a welcome booklet which will hopefully be issued to new residents who come to live in the village.
This provides information on the benefits of being a member a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme and invites people to join. Application forms are included in the booklet.
WOMENS INSTITUTE: The next meeting of the Sutton and Barnby Moor WI, will be on Wednesday 20th July at 7:15pm in Sutton Village hHll. The guest speaker will be Penny Brittain of Mayflower Animal Sanctuary.
Members are invited on the night to donate items in support of the sanctuary, e.g. Blankets, towels bedding, dog food or any pet accessories, which will be gratefully received by the group.

IDLE VALLEY SOCIETY: When the group met on Tuesday 5th July at Barnby Moor village hall it should have been the Societies AGM. Due to the reduced number of committee members present (illness and prior appointments etc.) it was decided to delay the AGM until a later date convenient to all.
As there was no speaker engaged for the evening, the group took part in a small quiz before embarking in a communal supper and discussed society business in general.

CUP AND CHATTER: The walking group of the Idle Valley Society held their Cup and Chatter session at the Citrus Café based at the Retford and Gainsborough garden centre. After chatting to friends old and new over afternoon tea, the group took part in a small general knowledge quiz, which was won on this occasion by Barbara Robson. The group then socialised for the rest of the afternoon.
VILLAGE HALL COMMITTEE: The Committee met on Monday evening of 11th July with Angela Close in the chair.
The following items came under discussion: Finances, Business Planning, Fundraising, and Maintenance.
COFFEE MORNING: Last Saturday’s coffee morning held in the village was once again a successful event. The morning session was organised by regular hosts Brian and Kathryn Seddons, assisted by daughter Victoria and although a somewhat smaller crowd than usual attended one or two new faces were spotted amongst regular visitors.
WHEELIE BINS: Residents are reminded that green bins should be put out for collection late on Monday night (18th July) or early Tuesday morning.
