Saturday 3rd December saw the first “Official” lighting of the village Christmas tree. A good crowd of villagers turned out to support the event and to join in the celebration with the children.
Although a cut tree was in place last year, (just in time), this year has seen the installation of a permanent rooted tree.
The tree has been presented to the village by the Parish Council and has been dedicated to the memory of Peter Roberts, the Parish’s former clerk of sixteen years. Peter sadly passed away a year ago just as the power for the lights and the tree itself were installed, but unfortunately Peter never got to see the results of his hard work come to life.
In a short service to celebrate the switch on of the lights, pupils from the parish C of E school sang songs from their forthcoming Christmas production, and the Rev Sue Caddy conducted prayers and a blessing of the tree. Peter’s widow, Pat Roberts, and members of their family were on hand to preside over the formal lighting of the tree in memory of Peter.
A formal plaque will be placed at the tree in the New Year to mark the dedication.
