PUBLIC MEETING: Housing development within Sutton?
A public meeting is scheduled to take place in Sutton Village hall on Monday 5th December, commencing at 4:00pm to discuss potential housing development sites within Sutton cum Lound. Whether you are against further development within the village or not, it’s important you have your say.
VILLAGE HALL: Work continues at the Village Hall, with the roof now stripped of the old tiles and lathes, and after further inspection new breathable felts and timbers should be fixed in position this week in readiness for the new tiles to be applied. This will hopefully take place before any severe weather conditions are encountered.
ST. BARTHOLOMEWS CHURCH: At the local church on Sunday 4th December, “Morning Prayer” will take place. The service starts at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.
POSTAL SERVICES: The Post Office in the Village Hall will be available as usual on two occasions each week. On Mondays: 9:30am – 1:30pm and on Thursdays 9:00am – 1:00pm. The local office can supply residents with: Pensions, Foreign Currency, Travel Insurance, Car Insurance, Investments and Savings.
POLICE: Local Beat manager for the area PC Steve Bolstridge can be contacted on Mobile: 07525 226 886 for information and advice. Alternative Police contact can be made on 101, the new number now in use for non-emergency calls. More urgent needs may require a 999 call.
ZUMBA FITNESS: Classes will re-commence on Monday 16th January 2012 at the Village Hall at the usual times of 7:00-8:00pm. Come along and try to lose some of the excess baggage gained over the festive season. Telephone Sue on 07793 195 959 for further details.
SUTTON APRIL CLUB: The next meeting of the club will be on Friday 2nd December at the usual times, and on Friday 16th December the group will be visiting the Fourways Hotel Blyth where they will take Christmas Lunch together.
Further details available from group leader Carole Head on 01777 705 077.
NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The local association report the following:
East Bassetlaw Neighbourhood Police Inspector Jenny Madin will take up a new post as from next week in a management restructuring programme.
The Inspector who has been the Local Area Commander for the past 19 months will move on to manage the Response teams as opposed to the Neighbourhood Team and will still be based at Retford.
An avid supporter of Neighbourhood Watch groups in the area the Inspector was always on hand to offer advice and support when needed and often attended local association meetings, as and when staffing levels permitted. The officer will be sadly missed in East Bassetlaw especially in the rural communities.
The local association look forward to meeting and supporting Inspector Simon Pealing who replaces the present incumbent.
Bassetlaw Neighbourhood Watch are asking members to remain alert to the ongoing problem of copper wire being stolen from right across our area, telephone cables and electric cables are all being cut and stolen so keep a good look out in your area. If suspicions are aroused please report the incident, advice is available on 101, the new non-emergency number.
PCSO: The PCSO for the area is 4735 Catherine Phillips who can be contacted direct on: Mobile: 07525 409 789.
SNOW WORRIES: The Parish Council has a small stockpile of winter salt available for the coming months and as much as we would all like to have the same stockpile in spring, the last two winters would suggest otherwise. Please contact the Clerk or any Councillor if you have problems.
COFFEE MORNING: Plans are well underway for the next coffee morning due to be held on Saturday 10th December in the Village Hall between 10:30am and 2:00pm, and hosted as usual by Brian and Kathryn Seddons.
There is no admission charge on this occasion; Coffee / Tea / biscuits and cake will be available to purchase.
As we approach the festive season this coffee morning will be one with a difference and will host a few seasonal stalls situated around the hall. These will include cards, arts and crafts and table decorations of various types to get the festive season off to a good start. The Christmas Raffle / Seasonal Draw will take place during this event.
PARISH COUNCIL: Meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month and discuss issues regarding the village. Residents are not only welcome but also actively encouraged to participate. Further details from the Clerk.
MOTHERS UNION: The next meeting of the Babworth and Sutton Mothers Union, will be the Christmas Party which takes place on Monday 5th December at 2:00pm.

SUTTON PARISH COUNCIL: Contact Sutton Parish Council via the Parish Clerk: Nigel Johnson : clerk@suttoncumlound net or 01777 948 320.
VILLAGE VENTURES: Fewer people than usual turned up for the last Village Ventures presentation of the year. New Perspectives Theatre Company, a group who are no strangers to the village, once again provided an excellent night of live entertainment, which was thoroughly enjoyed by those present.
Basically a one man show (not forgetting the sound and lighting engineer) a well rehearsed, well scripted, well present show which was well received on the night.
The result ??? Oh yes … Steeple Sinderby Wanders, did against all the odds, win the F A Cup.
WHEELIE BINS: Residents are reminded that Green bins should be put out for collection late on Monday night (5th December) or early Tuesday morning.
