
BURNS NIGHT: Before Christmas and New Year Celebrations had even begun, preparation for Burns Night festivities were well under-way. The 10th Annual Burns Supper celebrations are scheduled to take place on Saturday 21st January 2012 in Sutton Village Hall at 7:30pm. Scotland’s most famous bard Robert Burns will be commemorated the world over in January and celebrated for the tenth time in Sutton.
Tickets for this extremely popular event went on sale on Monday 19th December on a First-come, first-served basis with the village circulated days previously. The event was sold-out within 36 hrs of the tickets going on sale.
Despite rising costs, the tickets have been maintained at last years price of £17.50, and Mavis Bradley of 55 Station Road in the village is operating a reserve waiting list in case of cancellations taking place. Telephone: 01777 705 060.
ST. BARTHOLOMEWS CHURCH: On Sunday 8th January, a “Sung Eucharist” will take place at the local church. The service commences at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.

POSTAL SERVICES: The Post Office in the Village Hall will be available as usual on two occasions each week. On Mondays: 9:30am – 1:30pm and on Thursdays 9:00am – 1:00pm. The local office can supply residents with: Pensions, Foreign Currency, Travel Insurance, Car Insurance, Investments and Savings.
VILLAGE HALL UPDATE: Builders were due to start work on Tuesday after the break for the Christmas recess. Stage two of the project should see the fixing of the soffitts and facia boards take place before contractors move inside to address the internal alterations. Further updates will follow as progress is made.

Two reports of Criminal Damage have been made to Christmas lights in Mattersey Village. A property on Main Street, Mattersey had lights damaged on Wednesday night at approximately 21:45pm and the lights on the village Christmas Tree have been damaged beyond repair. Please remain vigilant in your village.

IMPROVEMENT WORKS: BARNBY MOOR AND SUTTON LEVEL CROSSING: Essential improvements works will take place at the above site on Saturday 7th January 2012 commencing at 23:45pm until Sunday 8th January 2012 at 0700am.

QUIZ NIGHT: Sunday 8th January sees the first of this year’s quiz nights taking place at the Gate Inn. Regulars have been sharpening their thoughts over the festive season and are looking forward to taking part.
