NOISE NUISANCE: Various complaints have been received both at Parish Council and District Council level with regard to the Noise Nuisance thought to be due to the use of a type of bird scaring device. Property owners in several parts of the village have been subjected to this ongoing noise since November, which many think is at unacceptable levels and is heard throughout the day and night.

The complaints received have been passed to the environmental health department for their perusal and the local PCSO Catherine Phillips has investigated the situation and reported her findings to the agency responsible.

Those people who have already complained about the situation should by now have received diary forms which they need to complete and return to Bassetlaw District Council as soon as possible to allow the case to progress.

If you do not return your diary forms then you may find the complaint closed.

Other people who wish to complain about the situation and haven’t already done so should contact BDC Environmental Health. You can do this online at: www.bassetlaw.gov.uk/environment/environmental_health_services/noise_complaint_service_form.aspx

DOG FOULING: The subject of dog fouling is once again causing concern in the village, especially with responsible dog owners who clean up after their pets without hesitation. The irresponsible few who seem to think they are above the law are causing embarrassment to the genuine pet lovers, who are feeling guilty when they come across ever-increasing loads of dog muck throughout the village.

Why should villagers at large and responsible dog owners be subjected to these conditions due to the selfish actions of a few who disregard the law and the feelings and well-being of the majority?

Pet owners who care, are joining together in an effort to identify the culprits (the owners  – not the dogs) and report their findings to the local authority with a view to prosecution.

Since 1st September 2002 all public land (i.e. pavements, grass verges, parks and open spaces) is covered by the Dogs (Fouling of land) Act 1966. An offence is committed under the Act if a person in charge of a dog fails to clean up after the animal has fouled in public open land, including the public highway.

The offence carries a maximum fine of £1,000. Fixed penalty notices carry an on-the-spot fine of £50, which the offender can pay within 14 days or have the case heard at the Magistrates Courts.

To help alleviate the problem the Parish Council have made available a limited supply of doggy bags for use by conscientious dog owners and others if needed.

These are available from the Parish Clerk: Nigel Johnson: clerk@suttoncumlound.net, or (01777) 948 320.

MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: Would patrons please note that, due to ongoing internal alterations at the Village Hall, the next meeting of the Neighbours group will take place on Tuesday 14th February.

QUIZ NIGHT: Another quiz night at the Gate Inn on Sunday 15th was once again a closely fought contest with various teams from in and around the area taking part. Resident quizmaster John Jones was back in the chair, fully recovered after a bout of flu-type illness and giving no quarter. The evening ended in a tie-break situation, with Pat & co. competing with the Johnson’s for the coveted winners spot.

The winners on the night were declared as the Johnson’s , who on this occasion decide to opt for the mystery prize on offer.   Congratulations!

Another quiz is scheduled for next Sunday at the Gate starting at 9:00pm.
