The local office can supply residents with: Pensions, Foreign Currency, Travel Insurance, Car Insurance, Investments and Savings.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The local association report the following:

Police are warning vehicle owners to be extra vigilant following a spate of thefts of batteries, catalytic converters and fuel.

The vehicles attacked are often company vehicles parked within compounds, but many are parked in driveways and on the roads.

The theft of batteries may be linked to metal theft in the area and due to the weight and awkward nature of vehicle batteries,  it is likely that a van or other vehicle is used for their transportation.

Precautionary measures to prevent you from becoming a victim of crime are:

  • Locking fuel caps
  • Fit anti-siphoning device
  • If you have a garage please use it
  • If your vehicle is on your driveway think about installing PIR lights
  • Consider installing a Thatcham approved alarm to your vehicle – ones that activate if your vehicle is lifted or tilted are particularly effective
  • Park your vehicle against the wall this will make it more difficult to siphon fuel
  • If you park on the street try to leave your vehicle in a well lit area or near a CCTV camera
  • Use a catalytic converter protection device or marking system

Anyone with information about such thefts is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The committee of the local association met on Tuesday 26th June, at the usual time of 2:30pm and a full report will follow.

The torch was carried by the groups’ very own Monica Hockenhall, who ran through the grounds of the village hall, her efforts were applauded by all the members present. In the absence of the President Jackie Payne, Fiona Pagdin chaired the meeting, and conducted the official business in a speedy and efficient manner, this included feed back from the delegate representing the group at the AGM held at the Royal Albert Hall London.

“At the drop of a hat” was the title given to the topic arranged by the evening’s speaker, Mrs Dorothy woods. A very topical subject with Royal Ascot Races taking place. Probably a bit late for “Ladies Day” but members were amazed as a hat was made in various stages including a Fascinator and all done before their very eyes. A very enjoyable evening.

Refreshments were in the very capable hands of Wendy Armstrong and Pauline Marsh.

In the competition for a Buttonhole made with fresh flowers, Val Moore was the winner with Jean Roberts taking second place.

WHEELIE BINS: Residents are reminded that green bins should be put out for collection late on Monday night 2nd July or early Tuesday morning.
