CCTV released in Worksop distraction burglary inquiry

Detectives investigating a distraction burglary in Worksop have issued a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to.

The incident happened shortly before 7pm on Monday 23 July, when the female occupant of a house in Anston Avenue found a man had entered through an unlocked door.

The man told the woman he had come to pay for a car and showed her that he had cash to pay for it. He was told he had the wrong address, but the man then asked her if he could use the toilet, which the woman agreed to.

It was after he left that the woman discovered that cash had been stolen from her handbag, which was in her bedroom.

Police believe the man may have called at a number of addresses in the same street between 4pm and 7pm that day, and may have used a similar story.

The man is described as white, aged in his mid-20s, around 5ft 10ins tall, of slim build, with short dark hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt and spoke with a local accent.

Anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV picture or by his description is asked to telephone Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 800 of 23 July. Police also want to hear from anyone who believes they may have been visited by this man.

Alternatively, they can call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
