A 24-year-old Doncaster man, who was growing cannabis at a house in Blyth, has been jailed.
Nicholas Allan Hunt, of no fixed address, was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court last Monday (21 January 2013) to 18 months in prison, after pleading guilty to producing cannabis between March and May last year (2012).
Police received a tip-off from a member of the community about the 49 cannabis plants being cultivated by Hunt at a house he was renting in Sheffield Road.
He was arrested and his illegal crop quickly dismantled by police.
Further enquiries by both Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire officers led to the discovery of the remnants of about 74 more cannabis plants at an address in Tickhill Road, Balby, Doncaster, in April 2012.
Hunt also pleaded guilty to this offence and was jailed for a further 22 months, to run consecutively — amounting to a total of forty months imprisonment.
Blyth Beat Manager PC John Graham said: “This is good example of partnership working by police across the borders to bring a criminal — who thought he could hide from the law by operating on county peripheries — to justice.
“With further help from members of the community with keen eyes, ears and noses we can weed out illegal secret gardens of this nature and remove them from our neighbourhoods.”
