ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: A “Sung Eucharist” will take place at the local church on Sunday 10th February. The service commences at the usual time of 9:30am and a warm welcome awaits.
An additional service will be held on Wednesday 13th February at 12:00 midday when a sung Holy Communion will take place to celebrate Ash Wednesday.
POSTAL SERVICES: The Post Office in the Village Hall will be available as usual on two occasions each week. On Mondays 9:30am – 1:30pm and on Thursdays 9:00am – 1:00pm. The local office can supply residents with : Pensions, Foreign Currency, Travel Insurance, Car insurance, investments and Savings.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The committee of the local association held their monthly meeting as scheduled on Tuesday 29th January and the following items came under discussion:
- Shed Alarms with an update given on the sales of same
- Latest information on the Annual General Meeting planned for May 2013
- The chairman informed the committee members that he had already taken steps to ascertain the availability of the Village Hall for May and had indeed provisionally booked the venue for Tuesday 21st May at 7:30pm.
Enquiries are underway to secure the services of a speaker(s) for the evening of the event. The chair and secretary had some names in mind and would approach them in due course and report back. Police report/crime report for the area also came under discussion and PCSO Dave Airey gave an update and statistics of incidents logged during November / December 2012. This was broken down into two parts, i.e., Crime in the locality and crime reported across the beat area as a whole.
Whilst there had been various incidents across the area, investigated with a degree of some success, the village had little to no incidents to report.
The Officer asked that villagers remain vigilant.
Other issues raised were the concern of vehicles parking at the local shop and owners leaving their vehicles unattended with the engine running.
It is still an offence to leave a vehicle unattended with the engine running and prosecutions could ensue. It increases not only the risk of vehicle theft but in the event of a vehicle being taken under these circumstances owners may find their insurance could be null and void. Police will be monitoring the situation.

FLY-GILITY: Another good turnout despite the cold weather when owners and their canine companions attended last week’s session of Fly-gility. The group meet on a weekly basis at Barnby Moor playing fields situated to the rear of the village hall. The session lasting approximately two hours gives the dogs (and their owners } the chance to enjoy themselves and take part in a variety of exercises and games designed to improve their fitness and get rid of excess energy.
Anyone wishing to join in the proceedings should turn up on the day, Saturday 2 -4pm where you will receive a warm welcome whatever the weather.
SUTTON APRIL CLUB: The Sutton club will meet in the Village Hall on Friday 8th February at the usual time of 2:00pm. The group will socialise over afternoon tea and engage in a selection of their favourite activities.

GATE INN: Many villagers and friends met in the Gate Inn on Monday evening from 6 – 8pm. when the local hostelry held a free tasting evening.
This gave visitors to the venue a chance discover exciting new foods that they may have never seen or tasted before.
Speciality burgers and sausages were on offer during the session and exotic meat dishes available include: Springbok, Venison, Wild Boar, Ostrich, Water Buffalo, Thai green exotic fish curry, game pie and crocodile.
The evening gave those attending food for thought.
PARISH COUNCIL: Sutton Parish Council will meet on Tuesday 13th February in the Village Hall at 7:00pm.

PCSO: The PCSO Catherine Phillips (Now Darby) who served the village for two years before commencing maternity leave at Christmas, has informed the village through the auspices of local Neighbourhood Watch group that she has given birth to a son, Ethan Fox Darby on 21st January 2013. Weighing in at 7lb 8oz the new arrival and happy parents are all doing well. The officer intends to keep in contact with villagers amongst whom she has made many friends during her posting here.

SUTTON GARDENING CLUB: A change to the meeting arranged for Tuesday 12 February at 7:15pm in the Village Hall. The speaker for the evening, James Simpson Idle Valle Reserve Officer, has secured a new job away from the area, so the planned agenda for the evening has had to be re-scheduled. This will now be as follows:
- Introduction: Di Fisher, Duty Manager and Publicity Officer for Idle Valley, will give a quick overview of the Idle Valley Nature Reserve and the Eco-mind Garden [10 min].
- The main speaker for the evening is John Stirland, Radio Presenter and Horticulturist, Gardeners Question Time, BBC Radio Nottingham who will give his talk entitled ‘Gardening for Wildlife’.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: At the next meeting arranged for 20th February 2013 speaker Margaret Edge will address the membership on flowers for bees and other insects.
The competition on this occasion will be member’s Wildlife Photographs which will be judged by the speaker on the evening.
New members and visitors always welcome.
MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: The Neighbours team will be on hand on Tuesday 12th February to meet and greet neighbours old and new who care to turn up at the Village Hall at 2:00pm. You are invited to come along and join them for the afternoon. This is a chance for villagers and friends to come along and catch up on all the latest news and views from in and around the area.
Tea and biscuits and cakes and savouries will be available and the usual raffle will take place. Official notices affecting the village will be given out after which residents can socialise in convivial company.
