VILLAGE VENTURES: Saturday 9th March is the date of the village venture performance in the Village Hall. Some tickets are still available from the usual outlets, Pick’s Store in the village or by phoning Frank Bradley on 01777 705 060 or Fred Payne on 01777 707 562.

ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: A “Sung Eucharist” will take place at the local church on Sunday 10th March. The service commences at the usual time of 9:30am and everyone is welcome.

Will Parishioners please note that on Easter Sunday (31st March) a “Sung Eucharist” will take place but at the earlier time of 9:00am and not as stated in “By the Way”

POSTAL SERVICES: The Post Office in the Village Hall will be available as usual on two occasions each week.   On Mondays 9:30am – 1:30pm and on Thursdays 9:00am – 1:00pm. The local office can supply residents with : Pensions, Foreign Currency, Travel Insurance, Car insurance, investments and Savings.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The committee of the local association met on Tuesday 26th February at Station Road in the village at the usual time of 2:30pm.

The following items came under discussion:

  • Smart water or alternative security marking products were talked about by the group
  • Secretary David Mowthorpe had done some research and issued some leaflets for a security marking device in a pen-shape container by the name of Cremark, which is listed as “instant thief protection” for tools.
  • Committee member Frank Bradley gave a short demonstration of another product on offer “SELECTADNA . This is a property marking kit containing a non-toxic liquid incorporating a unique DNA code which can only be seen under UV light.

    The fluid is dabbed or brushed on to household items, e.g.-TV’S MP3 players any electrical goods.  It can also be used on Jewellery, rings, watches mobile phones, and most other valuables. Tamper proof warning stickers are supplied with each kit which are available through Bassetlaw Neighbourhood Watch.

    After discussion it was agreed to obtain a number of each of the products and if possible promote them at a forthcoming coffee morning with the organisers consent.

  • The group’s AGM date was reiterated and the chairman confirmed that correspondence received acknowledged that Police Commissioner Paddy Tipping would be attending the event scheduled for Tuesday 21st May 2013 at 7:30pm.
  • Crime report for January 2013 was made available, with PCSO Dave Airey on hand to answer any questions arising.

District Councillor Tracey Taylor was in attendance at the meeting.

Sutton cum Lound Neighbourhood Watch Association report the following:

  • Burglary has seen a large increase over the last 12 months (2012) and this has almost exclusively been targeted at outbuildings (sheds and garages).

    That is why we are following up the successful autumn ‘Shed Alarm’ event with a ‘Marking your Property’ event (lawn mowers, hedge trimmers, bicycles etc.).to be held during the Coffee & Cakes Morning in the Village Hall (10 to 12noon) on Saturday 16 March   Please call in and update your security measures.

SUTTON ART GROUP: The group meet every Friday morning in the Village Hall and will continue throughout the season.   Further details of the group and their activities are available from Joan Reiter on 01777 702 137 or Margaret Beare on 01777 704 836.

PARISH COUNCIL: Sutton Parish Council will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday 13th March 2013 in the Village Hall at the usual time of 7:00pm. Chairman Martin Rees and his fellow councillors invite you to join them. Villagers are requested to go along and support them.

MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: Tuesday 12th March is the day you can meet the neighbours in the Village Hall at 2:00pm. Come along and catch up on all the news and views from in and around the area. You are invited to bring a friend along for afternoon tea.

FLY-GILITY: Good weather saw a good turnout for the Fly-gility group who meet every week on a Saturday afternoon (weather permitting) from 2:00pm – 4:00pm.

Again a group of around twenty owners and pets gathered for an afternoon of exercise and excitement.   Some very high standards of training and commands were noted and a great improvement in behaviour as canine pals socialised for the afternoon session.

KELLY J FITNESS:  The “Fitness for all” classes seem to have spread nationwide as residents across the country attempt to get fit and shed those winter blues.

The local group continue to meet on Monday nights at 7:00pm in the Village Hall and tends to attract new members at each session.

The fully qualified fitness instructor and personal trainer is on hand to put members through their paces with exercises tailored to suit individual needs.

This is a chance to get your body in shape for summer.

VILLAGE HALL UPDATE: New flooring has been laid in the main hall and work has commenced in the servery.

SUTTON APRIL CLUB: The Sutton April Club will meet on Friday 8th March at the usual time of 2:00pm in the Village Hall. Members old and new always welcome. Full details of the club and its activities are available from group leader Carole Head on 01777 705 077.

VILLAGE HALL COMMITTEE: The hall committee met on Wednesday 27th February at 7:30pm with Angela Close in the chair.

Members were immediately impressed with the new floor covering which had been laid the previous day, and gave a vote of thanks to Angela Close and Sharon Dyson for their efforts in the matter and for the speed and efficiency they got the task completed.

The new curtains for the venue have arrived and will be hung as soon as building works in the servery are complete.

SUTTON GARDEN CLUB: Sutton Gardening Club meets on the Tuesday 12 March at 7:15pm in the Village Hall. This is your chance to hear Carol Bowser talking about ‘The Story of Winthrop Park’. The park is only a few miles from Sutton so find out more about it on the night and then choose to visit it one day.
