SUTTON ART GROUP: Report of the annual show in November 2013 was the Art Group Annual Exhibition with over 140 exhibits from 20 members of the Group and 30 exhibits from the Sutton cum Lound Church of England Primary School. A crowd of around a 100 people attended a very enjoyable event with raffle tickets and paintings in demand. If you missed this free event make a note that in November 2014 the Group will be celebrating 20 years, and the exhibition will be even bigger and better. There was a wide range of art on display from ink dot pictures to paintings on silk, water colour and mixed media paintings. Topics covered were diverse from flowers, architecture, animals and people to land & seascapes – something for all tastes.

INFORMAL HISTORY GROUP: The Group has now met three times and started to gather information. This is turning out to be a very big task with lots of responses from residents and non-residents alike. Unfortunately progress has been hampered by illness but we hope to move more quickly in 2014 and make contact with all those people who have volunteered information. It would be particularly useful if those people who have been resident for 40 years or so would try and recall significant events in the village decade by decade. For example, the Portland Place School opened in 1973. We are to continue to meet in the restaurant part of the Gate Inn on the last Monday of the month at 7:30pm; Ron Beare and David Mowthorpe look forward to seeing you there in 2014.
COUNTY COUNCILLOR: With all the talk of planning applications for quarrying for minerals and sand and gravel in the surrounding area plus applications for Solar parks or farms which may affect those living in the rural communities your County Councillor Mrs. Liz Yates has some information on these subjects and is available for consultation on these matters and others.
