MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: Another good turnout when the Neighbours’ group met on Tuesday 11th February in the Village Hall with a total of 30 people in attendance on the day. Organizer Joan Reiter -(fresh out of surgery and walking with the aid of a stick) – was on hand with her team to meet and greet visitors as they arrived, and offering a special warm welcome to the two or three people visiting the event for the first time. The Local PCSO Aaron Stocks called in during the afternoon session and mingled with visitors offering free advice on security and making the gathering aware of incidents that have occurred in area over the last week.
Visitors socialized over afternoon tea and caught up on all the latest happenings from in and around the village. Official notices were given out and the usual raffle in support of the group took place.
VILLAGE VENTURES: A smaller than usual attendance at the latest in the Village Ventures Series taking place in the Village Hall on Sunday night 16th February. Despite many of the regular attendees and organisers being away on holiday the show went ahead as scheduled with the performance maintaining the high standard we have now come to expect from the New Perspectives Theatre Company.
“Him with his foot in his mouth” billed as a hilarious one man show was accepted by some of the audience but not by all. Perhaps we are still not ready to accept or understand the concepts of American type Humour.
Thanks to Village Ventures for bringing live theatre to the rural communities.
SCHOOL REPORT: Would visitors to school during the week commencing February 24th, please note that there are building works being carried out to the main entrance. Should anyone require to visit school then, please use the main entrance buzzer and await to be given access via the playground side gate and the KS2 cloakroom. Thank you for your patience in this matter.
The school’s Christingle service, which was held recently in St. Bartholomew’s Church, was very well attended by the community and family members of the pupils. The donations that were collected, amounted to £100 in aid of the work of the Children’s Society.
This half term, pupils have had some exciting opportunities to try something different in school. The children in Class 1 have joined with the Pre-School children for a number of sessions of “Sure Tots”, where they have enjoyed using an interesting range of sporting equipment. Whilst, learning to play a new musical instrument has been a focus for the children in Class 2. They have benefited from weekly lessons in how to play the ukulele from the Nottinghamshire Music Support Service. Look out for details of their premier performance!
SUTTON GARDENING CLUB: The illustrated talk by Chris Cocks of Taylor’s Nursery exceeded expectations with a good turn out and an inspiring and informative talk on ‘Clematis Through the seasons’. By popular demand of the members, the Club is now to arrange a visit to the Nursery around June.

Apologies were received from Councillors Andy Close, Angela Close and David Mowthorpe who were unable to attend. Councillor Ron Beare took the chair and Clerk to the Council Nigel Johnson was also present along with 16 members of the public.
The subject of Fracking was on the agenda list for the evening and before commencing the public participation part of the evening Councillor Beare invited County Councillor Mrs Liz Yates to bring the meeting up to date with the latest information she had on the matter. The Councillor spoke briefly about the situation and presented documents with regards to the subject. In 2009 planning consent had been given for exploration bore holes to be sunk to assess the situation. No Fracking has taking place in the area and that situation remains at the present time. In the public participation period local resident Monica Hockenhull put forward various items for Councils attention along with written submissions. These were discussed briefly and Council referred to earlier information from Mrs Yates explaining most of the concerns raised. Mrs Hockenhull thought a public meeting should be called with regard to the situation. A lot of concern was raised by members of the public, some took on board Mrs Yates comments and explanations for the time being.
Normal business agenda items were then dealt with in a satisfactory manner with various comments being noted. The meeting itself ending at approximately 910pm. The date of the next meeting being scheduled for Wednesday 12th March 2014 at the usual time of 7:15pm.
