
SUMMER FAIR: A summer fair will be held in the Village Hall on Saturday 21st June from 1:30pm – 4:00pm. The event will be to help raise funds for a physiotherapy vest for local resident Esmae Whellans from Portland Place in the village.
Esmae was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at just four weeks old and the special vest will help with her breathing problems. It is hoped villagers and friends will show their support for Esmae.
ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: “Songs of Praise” will take place at the local church on Sunday 22nd June. The service starts at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.
NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The next committee meeting of the local association will be held on Tuesday 25th June at the usual time of 2:30pm.
MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: The Meet the Neighbours group held their meeting in the Village Hall on Wednesday 10th June as arranged from 2pm – 4pm and a report will follow next week.
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: The ladies of Sutton and Barnby Moor WI held their meeting on Wednesday 18th June in Sutton Village Hall. The meeting started at the usual time of 7:15pm and the speaker was Annette Mackenzie who spoke about barn owls. A report will follow next week.
SCHOOL NEWS UPDATE: It was good to see regular visitors at our Community Lunch earlier this month. The children enjoy talking to visitors and telling them about everything that has been happening in school. Villagers are most welcome to join us for the final Community Lunch of this term on July 16th, please contact the school office 01777 705990, to book your meal. Further dates for your diaries:-
- Car Boot Sale in the School grounds Sunday June 22nd 10:00 – 12:00. £5 fee per “car boot”, with entry from 9:00.
- The next Ragtex collection will be on July 11th. Please use the clothing bank at the rear of the school car park for donations of any clean pre-loved clothing, curtains, sheets, toys & DVDs.

SUTTON PARISH COUNCIL: The Parish Council met on Wednesday 11th June as scheduled with the following members in attendance: Chairman Ron Beare, Vice Chair Angela Close, Clerk to the Council Nigel Johnson, Councillors: Mavis Bradley, Martin Rees, David Burton, David Mowthorpe.
Apologies were received from Councillors Andy Close, Sharon Dyson, and Karen Foster.
District Councillor Tracy Taylor was present for the earlier part of the meeting, and ten members of the public also attended.
Various items came under discussion during the meeting, these included: Parish Plan Items, Energy Policies, Nottinghamshire Minerals Local Plan, Financial Matters, and Planning Applications.
During the Public participation section, a local resident brought several items to Councils attention:
- Further information with regards to gas extraction at Daneshill, and rumours of level crossing closures which may affect this village. Council duly noted the information provided.
- From the floor villager John Gough provided Council with valuable information regarding Nottinghamshire Minerals Local Plan, Councillor Tracy Taylor added further details and comments to the report.
The next council meeting will be on Wednesday 9th July 2014 commencing at 7:00pm.
SUTTON ART GROUP: The group meet every Friday morning in the Village Hall and will continue throughout the season. Further details of the group and their activities are available from either:
