SPEED WATCH: As part of the speed reduction programme aimed at reducing the speed of vehicles passing through the village a unit was in the village last Thursday, 26th February, operating on Town Street. In just over one hour a total of 17 vehicles had been recorded passing the device at speeds in excess of the statutory speed limits of 30 miles per hour. Offending drivers will be notified in due course.
ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: “Holy Communion” will be held at the local church on Sunday 8th March.
The service starts at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.
SUTTON APRIL CLUB: The next meeting of the club is Friday 6th March at the usual time of 2:00 to 4:00pm in the Village Hall where the group will engage in a selection of their favourite games. FRIENDS OF DANESHILL LAKES: The Friends of Daneshill Lakes have organised a Work Party for Friday 6th March at 9:30am, meeting at the containers on the Main Lake. Anyone joining us needs robust weatherproof clothing and footwear. Also if they are staying for most of the day a packed lunch and flask. But everyone is welcome whatever their abilities and amount of time to spare. We hope to be sailing over to the island which is always fun! MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: The next meeting of the Neighbours group will take place on Tuesday 10th March. On this occasion the group will assemble at the Gate Inn in readiness for a meal at approximately 1:00pm. Diners can then avail themselves of a meal of cottage pie, carrots and peas priced at £5.00 per person. This will be followed by the usual public announcements and hopefully a quiz and raffle will take place.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: When the ladies of the Sutton and Barnby Moor W I meet on Wednesday 18th March at 7:15pm in the Village Hall the speaker will be Pat Hutson and her talk will be about “Tales and Poems in dialect”. One not to be missed?
Future events scheduled for Wednesday 15th April will be an open meeting, with a presentation on the work of the RNLI. Entry is free but there will be a small charge for refreshments. Everybody welcome
NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: The committee of the local Neighbourhood Watch Association held its monthly meeting on Wednesday 25th February at the usual time of 2:30pm. During the meeting the following items came under discussion:
- Neighbourhood Watch Signs – enquiries have been made with regards to replacing / renewing current signs and a report will follow when further information is to hand.
- Police Report – No known crime reported at this time in the village, but a local resident’s concerns were followed up when suspicions were aroused by 3 men calling at various houses in the village. On investigation by local PCSO Aaron Stocks the information given including vehicle registration number indicated that it belonged to a double glazing company and was part of a sales campaign covering the area on that day, a was quite genuine. This was noted as a good example of a member of the community keeping a watchful eye on activities in the village and is encouraged by the police.
- Rural Communities – It was reported that rural communities have been concerned about the lack of Police support in their areas. Sutton was fortunate to have retain the services of PCSO Aaron Stocks occasionally supported by PCSO Dave Airey when required. The increased pressure on PCSO’s appears to have resulted in a reduced uniform Police presence in the rural communities and the committee expressed its concern about this situation. The need for a pro-active Neighbourhood Watch Association has never been higher.
At the meeting a provisional date was set for the groups AGM and the Secretary was asked to book the Village Hall for Tuesday 19th May. This has now been done and confirmed.
VILLAGE HALL COMMITTEE: The Village Hall committee their scheduled meeting on Wednesday 25th February 2015 at the usual time of 7:30pm in the Village Hall.
Various matters came under discussion including: Finance, fund raising events and hall maintenance.
SUTTON GARDENING CLUB: The Gardening Club met on Tuesday 3rd March at 7:15pm in the Village Hall as scheduled and a report will follow.
SUTTON ART GROUP: The group meet every Friday morning in the Village Hall and will continue throughout the season. Further details of the group and their activities are available from either:
