
ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: “Songs of Praise” will take place at the local church on Sunday 26th July.
The service starts at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.
MAJOR HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE WORKS: Notts County Council intend to carry out essential highway maintenance works on Town Street and Sutton lane in the village. The limits of this work are from outside 28 Sutton Lane to just north of St. Bartholomew’s Court a total distance of approximately 900m.
These works are scheduled to start on Thursday 23rd July 2015 with work planned for up to 8 days. The working hours will be 07:30 until 17:30.
PICKS GENERAL STORE: It is intended that the village shop will close during the forthcoming road works programme affecting Town Street and Sutton Lane.
Details are as follows:
- Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th – closed
- Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th – open
- Monday 27th until Friday 31st – closed
- Saturday 1st August – open as usual
If the road works finish earlier than planned then the shop will open at the earliest opportunity!

NETWORK RAIL: Network Rail advise that they need to undertake essential improvement works at Barnby Moor and Sutton Level Crossing on Station Road in the village. The works will be carried out from Saturday 25th July 2015 from 23:45 until Sunday 26th July 2015 at 08:25. This work will involve road markings.
Residents are requested to approach the area with care and obey any road signs during this period.
FRIENDS OF DANESHILL LAKES: Will patrons and friends please note that the Friends of Daneshill Lakes have organised a Flower Walk around the Reserve on Sunday 26th July 10:00 am to 12:00noon (meeting in main car park at 9:45am). The walk will be led by Notts Wildlife Trust’s Northern Education Officer and wild flower enthusiast Kevin Widdowson.
This is a free family event and everyone is welcome, of course wearing suitable clothing and footwear. Villager and friends are invited to join them.
SUTTON GARDENING CLUB: The Gardening Club visit to Burnby Hall Gardens at Pocklington took place on Sunday 12th July. The Gardening Club hired a 24 seater executive coach. The weather was just favourable and the gardens and cafe were excellent.
The 6.5 acre site is beautifully landscaped and the lily ponds were fantastic, housing a national collection of water lilies which were in full flower. 21 members and partners enjoyed a great day out.
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: The ladies of Sutton and Barnby Moor WI appeared before a magistrate on the evening of Wednesday 15th July when they met in Sutton Village Hall.
The group were present, not for any demeanours but to try and understand and absorb the rudiments of belly dancing which the visiting guest Magistrate Alison Clark would try to teach them. Shyness at first but then no shortage of volunteers as the ladies came forward to try their skills at this ancient ritual, normally associated with Egypt and the Middle East. A very enjoyable evening for both members and tutor who advised: More practice required!
