ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: At the local church on Sunday 13th May, “Holy Communion” will be the order of service.

The service starts at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.

GATE INN UPDATE: After a lengthy and emotional meeting, it has been decided that Mitchell & Graham Management Limited (MGM) will cease trading on the 31st May, or until we have insufficient wet stock to open, and the Gate Inn will close. MGM have earnestly tried over the last few months to keep things going, always with the hope that footfall would increase, especially as we head towards summer. Sadly this just hasn’t happened. Kieran, Hayley and Paula would like to thank all the Investors who put their faith in MGM and regret their loss of investment, but more importantly feel they have let their friends down. They would also like to thank all the villagers who used and enjoyed the pub and hope that they will have fond memories to take forward.

VINTAGE TEAS: The next Vintage Tea week-end is scheduled for Saturday 19th May, when once again the Vintage Tea rooms will be serving the usual high-class teas in finest bone china complete with a cake stand full of tempting sandwiches and delicious cakes to tempt the palate. It is essential for those requiring a full vintage tea to book by calling Judi on 07970 052055 to arrange same; this is to avoid disappointment as more and more people are wishing to attend.

Villagers and friends are invited to call in, if passing, to enjoy an afternoon cuppa and a nice piece of cake or treat yourself to the ever-popular cream teas and socialise for the afternoon with friends and neighbours. Will you be there? All your friends and neighbours will! Congratulations to both the ladies who run and organise these events, namely Judi Walters and Nikki Sorsby for their continued efforts in bringing people together in the rural communities.

GARDENING CLUB: When the club met on Tuesday 1st of May as scheduled the proposed speaker was Rachell Barrowcliffe who normally addresses groups on the topic of “I want a beautiful garden” which is broken down in to three major sections; Garden Mentoring, Advice and Redesign (if required.) and personal plant shopper. A talk commenced on the art of container planting of veg / herbs and shrubs various. This was accompanied by a Powerpoint presentation with invited audience interjection from the floor. This proved a very successful format for the evening, with some of those present already implementing the ideas and advice given, some keen to try new ideas from the evenings programme. On completion of the talk, the speaker invited questions from the floor, which were all answered to the groups satisfaction.

The evening was brought to a close and refreshments served, the speaker mingled with the group offering advice if needed. A very informative evening. Further information about the club and its activities available from Elaine Hauser on 07969 254 920. Members old and new always welcome.
