ST.BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH: At the local church on Sunday 3rd June, “Morning Prayer” and will take place.
The service starts at 9:30am and everyone is welcome.
PLANNING MEETING: A group of 50 plus from the village attended Retford Town Hall on Wednesday 23rd May to listen to a planning application from a local haulage contractor who submitted an outline application for up to 42 Dwellings, plus 2 Replacement Dwellings, Public open Space, Landscaping, Drainage Infrastructure, and access to land named as The Paddocks on 35 Station Road in the village. After the conclusion of official notices etc, the first of the agenda items was relating to Sutton cum Lound.
Representatives from the village spoke on behalf of residents and outlined the main objections and the implementation of the Neighbourhood Plan, which was 3 years in the making and was formulated by a band of willing and hardworking volunteers over the same period. The Council’s Planning Committee discussed the application and gave their views and comments. District Councillor for Sutton Ward Tracey Taylor summed up the situation for the committee reiterating the work efforts involved by the neighbourhood planning group with a detailed account of how such an application would affect the village as a whole.
After due consideration the planning committee decided against the application and refused permission at this stage. Village residents left the meeting happy at the outcome and the wise decision taken by council.
MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: Now that the group can no longer meet at The Gate Inn, new arrangements have been made by Joan and her team. Those attending will still meet on the second Wednesday of the month but at the new time of 1:15 pm. The new venue is the Village Hall when the Post Office has closed for the day!
The bar will be open for the sale of wines, beers, and soft drinks and the usual popular quiz and raffle will take place. The next meeting will be on the 3rd Wednesday of June, the 20th, but for this one session only! It will then return to the usual slot on the second Wednesday of each month at the stated time of 1:15pm.
The menu on 20th June will be home cooked ham or turkey – 2 slices of either one or a slice of each, buttered new potatoes, coleslaw, mixed salad, dressing or mayonnaise separate, roll and butter, followed by a sweet made by one of the team, and a choice of tea or coffee to finish off. The cost remains at £6.00 per person.
Our team of volunteers hope you will continue your support under these new arrangements, and we need to gauge how many people intend to go to the 20th June meeting and in the future. For further details of the neighbours group please contact organiser Joan Reiter on 07990 702 445.
QUIZ NIGHT: The Village Hall was full last Sunday for the bank holiday quiz which was a combination of a general knowledge and music quiz. Winners were “Dos sheet” with a score of 47 picking up the special £50 prize on offer. Refreshments were provided at half time when quizzers could also enter and play a game of Irish Bingo run by Karen. The £50 prize on offer was split between John Jones and Sharon. Play your cards wasn’t won even with 5 hopefuls being drawn out to play. The £100 rolls over to next Sunday.
A vote of thanks must go to the Village Hall volunteers who have made the transition from the Pub to the Hall possible. Thanks also to Margaret who organises the quiz and ensures everything run smoothly.
