Applying for secondary school places for September 2019

Applications for primary to secondary (year 7) can be made until 31 October 2018.

Parents may be aware that the increased number of children in the primary sector means that there will be an increased demand for places in the secondary phase this year.

It is important that parents of children who require a secondary school place for September 2019 apply by the closing date of 31 October 2018.  The best way to apply is online.

All secondary schools in Nottinghamshire are own admission authority schools and have their own oversubscription criteria which can vary from school to school.  It is important therefore to check the admission oversubscription criteria carefully.

Parents should not assume that their child will get in at a particular school just because they live in the catchment area, have a brother or sister attending, attend the linked junior or primary or live reasonably close to the school.  Parents need to make use of all four preferences and ensure their application is received on time.

Last year, for admissions in September 2018, 97% of parents who applied on time were offered a place at one of their preferred schools. Last year, of the 212 families that were not successful for any of their preference, 69% had expressed only one preference.

For more information about the application process, schools, the number of places available or how places are allocated, please visit the website at www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/admissions  or call 0300 500 80 80.
