FRACK OFF
People in the village and surrounding area are quietly confident that the recent explorations by Igas at Tinker Lane in Blyth have proved negative! The company have confirmed that investigative drillings at the site have failed to find any shale gas and they will be leaving to go to another site on Springs Road in Misson. The site has attracted controversy over the past few months from various sources in and around the area.
BIN COLLECTIONS
Please remember that we are still inside the revised Christmas window for bin collections, with the last one being Wednesday 9th January before the original schedule is restored in the following week.
See here for the revised dates
ALL LIT UP
The village has that inviting and welcoming feeling as more and more residents made the efforts to decorate and light up their properties for the festive season this year as those people passing through have commented. The Gate Inn leads the way of course with an outstanding display, which a lot of work and effort has gone into, and although a commercial property, has also attracted a lot of comments from locals and visitors alike. Well done to all concerned!
PARISH COUNCIL
The Parish Council will hold its monthly meeting as usual on Wednesday 9th January 2019 in the Village Hall at the usual time of 7:00pm. Members of the public are invited to join them.
CAROL SINGING
Another good turnout for the annual carol singing event held in the village on Thursday 20th December. The group seemed to be in fine voice as they sang their way through the song sheet accompanied by the brass band who gave an outstanding performance on the night. During the session Father Christmas made a surprise visit to the event curtsey of North Notts Lions, complete with decorated sleigh and sweets for the youngsters in attendance. A door to door collection took place around the village in support of the lions charity work in the area which has funded many local causes past and present. Well done Lions!
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
When the ladies of the local WI met on Wednesday 19th December at Sutton Village Hall it was the groups’ Christmas Party, which included a Christmas decoration competition. This consisted of teams of four being given various assorted items to make up and decorate and hang on a Christmas tree and all to be done within the allotted time. (Remember the “Generation Game”?) This was duly done and to a very high standard, judged later in the evening by an independent adjudicator, and prizes issued accordingly. Members were invited to bring in a surprise item wrapped up for a “Secret Santa” event so everybody in attendance on the night went home with a mystery present. Those present joined their peers in a communal buffet to bring a great evening to a close. It’s all happening at Sutton and Barnby Moor W.I. and you are invited to join them!
