ST BARTHOLOMEWS’ CHURCH
The next service at the church on Sunday 14th April is Palm Sunday Communion Service and everybody is welcome. The service starts at the usual time of 9:15am. On this, the Sunday before Easter, Palm Sunday is celebrated, the palm Crosses are blessed and distributed. This service includes Holy Communion, readings, prayers and special hymns for the day. Once again the gathering is invited to stay for refreshments after the service.
Churchyard update
A gentle reminder that grass cutting will start in the next couple of weeks in the new churchyard which the church has the responsibility for maintaining. Any Christmas wreaths on graves will need to be cleared in preparation for this. If you attend a grave in the churchyard please can you help us by removing any old wreaths/plants? Please note that we don’t have any waste facilities so please can you take them home with you to dispose of. Thank you.

CHURCH SERVICE
On Sunday 7th April (5th Sunday of LENT), “Songs of praise” was the order of service at the local church. The service was conducted by worship leader Janet Webb. Bible readings were from the gospel: John 12… (1 – 8); again the worship leader obliged. Intercessions: Janet Webb: Organist: Geoff Webb. Worshippers were reminded and invited to attend the Annual Parochial Church Council meeting which took place on Monday evening in church at 7:00pm. The P.C.C. intended to discuss the work of the church and suggestions from parishioner’s views for its future. A report will follow. After the service, the congregation were invited to stay for refreshments and socialise.
GARDENING CLUB
The Gardening Club is growing at such a rate not only plants but in stature, thanks to the efforts and energy of the club committee and members! It has been proposed and ratified by the membership that the group have a change of name owing to the membership joining from destinations various. Sutton gardening club held its AGM on Tuesday 2nd April in Barnby Moor village hall. The Club has now adopted a constitution stating how the club is to be run and in addition to this has also changed its name to The Sutton-cum-Lound and Barnby Moor Gardening Club which more accurately reflects the club’s membership. Reports were received from the Chair and Treasurer. All officers stood down and 6 of the 7 committee members were re-elected en-bloc. Rose Cody, who has been very active as a committee member, has sadly stepped down; there were no volunteers on the night to fill this position and therefore there remains a vacancy on the committee. Frank Bradley was thanked for his role in keeping media outlets up to date with the club’s activities and has volunteered to continue in this role, which is very much appreciated. During a period of socialisation a general consensus of opinions indicate that the success of the club and the increase in membership is due wholly to the efforts and input of the committee under the chairmanship of Jenny Bailey. A great social event bringing the rural communities together in a pleasant atmosphere, with many close friendships being formed. Another good turnout at this event (24plus) with many members absent on the night due to prior engagements, but many have made their intentions known that they will be present at the next meeting. The meeting was brought to a close and drinks and nibbles were enjoyed alongside a plant sale run by Pete Masters and Jenny Pinkney.
The next meeting on 7th May at 7:15pm in Barnby Moor village hall, will be a talk from Echium World. New members are welcome to join. A small cover charge applies to visitors. Further information about the club and its activities available from Elaine Hauser on 07969 254 920. Members old and new always welcome.
QUIZ NIGHT
The quiz continues to take place in the Village Hall every Sunday night, £1.00 entry per person which is paid back as prize money! The bigger the crowd – the bigger the prize! New contestants always welcome. 8:00pm start and bar open.
