SPONSORED WALK

A care home in Barnby Moor has helped promote mental health awareness within the community by raising £200 at a fundraising walk. Residents and colleagues at Barnby Court decided to do a five mile charity walk as their fundraising activity, with home manager Margaret Greaves, deputy manager, Jacqui Swannack, and head cook, Barbara Horsfield, stepping up to the challenge. Joined by two former Colleagues at Barnby Court, the group embarked on their five mile charity walk around Idle Valley Nature Reserve in Retford, raising £200 after friends and family generously donated to the cause. Well done to all concerned!

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH

The local association are trying to keep the village updated with the latest Neighbourhood Alert messages. Please see details of the one listed below:

Action Fraud have received an increase in reports and intelligence where elderly victims are being targeted by individuals purporting to be police officers or traffic wardens. The victims are being approached whilst parked in a car park and are told by the suspect that they have parked illegally or broken a speed limit and a photo has been taken of their car for ‘evidence’. Victims are advised that they will face a substantial penalty fine unless they pay a smaller upfront fee immediately. Victims, who opt for paying the smaller penalty, will be directed to a parking meter and asked to enter their card and PIN. These parking meters have been tampered with by the suspect in order to retain the card.

Once the victim inserts their card and are asked for their PIN, the victims are shoulder surfed for their PIN by the suspect. Once victims input their PIN, the card is retained by the machine and victims are told by the suspect to seek help from the company who operates the parking meter or their bank.

Residents are advised to be vigilant and report any suspicious events the police on the non-emergency number 101.

The next meeting of the group is scheduled for Wednesday 31st July 2019 at the usual time of 2:30pm.

CHURCH SERVICE

On Sunday 7th July (3rd Sunday after Trinity), “Songs of Praise” were held at St. Bartholomew’s Church at 9:15am. Worship leader Janet Webb led the service.

GARDENING CLUB

The Sutton and Barnby Moor gardening club met at the Walled Garden in Clumber Park on Tuesday 2nd July where a tour of the walled garden took place. In the absence of head gardener Shirley Roberts, a senior member of the gardening staff was on hand to escort the group around the gardens. Twenty-one members and friends made the effort, with apologies received from those unable to attend on the night. With a 7 0’ clock start the group was amazed at the volume of works taking place within the walled venue, and were supplied with facts and figures to think about after the visit and for the future. The visit lasted approximately an hour and a half and was thoroughly enjoyed by the membership, especially the news about the latest “no–dig” policy which was well received and may well be put into practice by some of those in attendance.

Further information about the club and its activities available from Elaine Hauser on 07969 254 920. Members old and new always welcome.

QUIZ NIGHT

The quiz continues to take place in the Village Hall every Sunday night, £1.00 entry per person which is paid back as prize money! The bigger the crowd – the bigger the prize! New contestants always welcome. 8:00pm start and bar open.
