Action Fraud Alert 1
Criminals Targeting People with Universal Credit Scam
Action Fraud has received 63 reports about a scam in which fraudsters target people with offers of “low cost” loans or “free” government grants. What the victims aren’t told is that the money they’ll receive is actually an advance payment for Universal Credit.

Fraudsters Targeting Social Media Influencers
The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau has received intelligence to suggest that fraudsters are contacting social media influencers, based in the UK and abroad, offering them the opportunity to market a bogus product, service or investment opportunity.
PARISH LUNCHES
Please note that the Parish Lunch for August will take place on Tuesday 13th at the Gate Inn at 12:00noon. You are invited to join us for good food and conversation. NB: a small contribution is made to the current building fund after each lunch session. PARISH COUNCIL
Sutton Parish Council will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday 14th August at the usual time of 7:00pm at the Village Hall. The chair and councillors invite you to join them as they work on your behalf.
NOT OUT
The annual cricket match at Barnby Moor is not out at present but they will be out on the field on the big day. This popular event, the annual cricket match between the two local hostelries, the White Horse Public House and Ye Olde Bell Hotel will be held on Sunday the 18th August 2019 in Barnby Moor playing field starting about 3:30pm. Your support will be gratefully appreciated so why not come along and cheer on your favourite side?
ST. BARTHOLOMEW’S DAY
The local church is planning an event for St. Bartholomew’s day 24th August. As it is the church’s Patronal Festival Day they are celebrating by opening the church during the day for refreshments, sharing a “Holy Communion” in the afternoon displaying the plans for the proposed new toilet and kitchen, having a raffle, serving afternoon teas. This special event is to aid the building fund and get the local community involved with the plans. Please tell all your friends about it and let church wardens Dylan Boddy or Janet Webb know if you can help in any way or have any suggestions.
GARDENING CLUB
The gardening club had an away day on Tuesday 6th August 2019, and a report will follow when to hand.
CHURCH SERVICE
On Sunday 4th August (seventh Sunday after Trinity) “Songs of Praise” took place at the local church. The service was led by Lay Reader Joan Herrington, commencing at the usual time of 9:15am. Gospel readings were carried out by Fiona Pagdin. Intercessions: Janet Webb – Organist: Geof Webb. After the welcoming and opening prayer various hymns and readings took place. The hymns on this occasion were jolly and light hearted and proved very popular with the congregation who appeared to be in good voice. Readings carried out during the service were performed by members of the congregation, including: Monica Hockenhull, Shirley Stokes, Janet Webb, and Rosie Woodgate. A really uplifting service according to those present. After the concluding prayer and blessing the congregation were invited as always to stay for refreshments.
QUIZ NIGHT
The quiz continues to take place in the Village Hall every Sunday night, £1.00 entry per person which is paid back as prize money! The bigger the crowd – the bigger the prize! New contestants always welcome. 8:00pm start and bar open.
