ST. BARTHOLOMEW’S DAY: The local church is planning an event for St. Bartholomew’s day on Saturday 24th August. As it is the church’s Patronal Festival Day they are celebrating by opening the church during the day for refreshments, Bells will be ringing a quarter Peal and a service of “Holy Communion” will be held at 3:30pm in the afternoon, displaying the plans for the proposed new toilet and kitchen, having a raffle, serving afternoon teas.

This special event is to aid the building fund and get the local community involved with the plans. Please tell all your friends about it and let church wardens Dylan Boddy or Janet Webb know if you can help in any way or have any suggestions.

NOT OUT: The annual cricket match at Barnby Moor is not out at present but they will be out on the field on the big day. This popular event, the annual cricket match between the two local hostelries, the White Horse Public House and Ye Olde Bell Hotel will be held on Sunday the 18th August 2019 in Barnby Moor playing field starting  about 3:30pm. Your support will be gratefully appreciated so why not come along and cheer on your favourite side?

GARDENING CLUB: The groups next meeting will be Tuesday 3rd September at Barnby Moor village Hall, Kennel Drive at 7:15pm when Annette Mackenzie makes a return visit and will hopefully be bringing her 2 owls (Brillo and Eric) to meet the group. PARISH COUNCIL: Sutton Parish Council held its monthly meeting on Wednesday 14th August at the usual time of 7:00pm and a report will follow when to hand. The Parish Council normally meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00pm in the Village Hall. There is a public participation period and all residents are welcome to attend. CHURCH SERVICE: The service on Sunday 11th August was a “Sung Eucharist” commencing at the usual time of 9:15am.  The service was conducted by the Rev’d Cora Yarrien. Readings from Hebrews by Janet Webb, Gospel readings by Joan Herrington. Prayers by Dylan Boddy – Organist Geof Webb. Worshippers were invited as is usual to remain for refreshments after the service.

GARDENING CLUB AWAY DAY: The gardening club had an away day on Tuesday 6th August 2019, when the group travelled to the Royal Horticulture Gardens at Harlow Carrs near Harrogate North Yorkshire. Despite the gloomy weather forecast, the rain held off and members all enjoyed a day of sunshine and light breezes. The gardens, walks, alpine house and orchid exhibition at Harlow Carrs were enjoyed by most some of those even tasted the delights of Betty’s tearoom! On the return home, our gardens had all been watered for us thanks to the wet weather in Retford whilst away for the day.

QUIZ NIGHT: The quiz continues to take place in the Village Hall every Sunday night, £1.00 entry per person which is paid back as prize money! The bigger the crowd – the bigger the prize! New contestants always welcome. 8:00pm start and bar open.


YOUTH CLUB: The Youth Club continue to meet on a Tuesday night from 6:00pm to 7:00pm in the Village Hall (except for the first Tuesday in the month). New members are always welcome.

MEET THE NEIGHBOURS: The group continue to meet at Sutton Village Hall on the second Wednesday of each month for a communal lunch. Further details about the group and its activities are available from group leader Joan Reiter on (01777) 702 137.
