ST. BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH
Please note that the next service in church is on Saturday 24th August 2019, which is St. Bartholomew’s Day. Visitors on the day will be able to peruse the building plans for the proposed new kitchen and toilets. Bell ringers will attempt a quarter-peal during the afternoon and “Holy Communion will take place at 3:30pm. Afternoon tea will be served in church after the service.
The service on Sunday 25th August will be a “Worship for All” service and will take place at the new time of 9:15am instead of 4:00pm. Please make a note of the new time!
LAST POST
Not the last post in the village, but sadly the last post for former village postman Jim Bradley. Jim will be fondly remembered in the village firstly as relief postman the village for over four years and went on to be our regular mailman for a further six years until a degenerative illness forced this popular public servant into early retirement. Possibilities of a desk job were considered, but alas to no avail as health conditions deteriorated. Fellow postal worker and colleague Sharon Holland from the village is organising a collection for Jim and is hoping villagers will offer support for a well respected character that served the village well for many years, fair weather or foul. If you wish to show your appreciation for Jim please contact Sharon in the village for further information.
GARDENING CLUB
The groups next meeting will be Tuesday 3rd September at Barnby Moor village Hall, Kennel Drive at 7:15pm when Annette Mackenzie makes a return visit and will hopefully be bringing her 2 owls (Brillo and Eric) to meet the group. CHURCH SERVICE
Lay Reader Joan Herrington was the Officiant at the local church on Sunday 18th August, when worshippers attended a “Family Service” at the usual time of 9:15am. Readings from Luke 12, was read by Monica Hockenhull – Prayers by Janet Webb: – Organist Geof Webb. Worshippers were invited to remain for refreshments after the service.
PARISH COUNCIL
Sutton Parish Council held its monthly meeting on Wednesday 14th August at the usual time of 7:00pm and a report will follow when to hand. The Parish Council normally meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00pm in the Village Hall. There is a public participation period and all residents are welcome to attend. QUIZ NIGHT
The quiz continues to take place in the Village Hall every Sunday night, £1.00 entry per person which is paid back as prize money! The bigger the crowd – the bigger the prize! New contestants always welcome. 8:00pm start and bar open.
