ST. BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH

The service on Sunday 16th February, the second Sunday before lent, is a “Family Service”. Please come along and bring the family. The service starts at 9:15am and everyone is welcome.

MEET THE NEIGHBOURS

A gentle reminder that the next meeting of the neighbours group is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 19th February in the Village Hall at the usual time of 1:15pm. Main Course – Roast turkey with stuffing and chipolata sausage, roast potatoes, buttered Sprouts with pancetta, carrots and parsnips followed by a Sherry trifle dessert, prepared by local chef and caterer Nigel Bower. Please let Brian Seddons know if will be able to make it on the day. A date for your diary!

RETFORD AND BARNBY MOOR W.I.

When the ladies of the Sutton and Barnby Moor W.I. meet on Wednesday 19th February it will be a “Games Night”. This is the event when the ladies vie with each other to see who will be best all rounder at the end of the night. Games include: Whist, Uno, Rummmikub  to name but a few! Then of course the usual raffle takes place for fabulous prizes! Don’t miss it.

MOBILE LIBRARY VAN

Please note that the library van will visit the village on Monday 24th February 2020 stopping at the usual places:

  1. Sutton Lane / North Road crossroads at 9:40am
  2. 22 Station Road at 10:00am
  3. 46 Station Road at 10:10am
  4. Town Street at 10:25am
  5. Portland Meadows at 10:45am
  6. Portland Place (garages) at 10:55am

As Retford library is closed for refurbishment at present this could be an ideal time to make use of a facility brought almost to your doorstep.

GARDENING CLUB

The next meeting of the Sutton and Barnby Moor Gardening Club will be held on Tuesday March 3rd. This will be the Club’s AGM commencing at 7:15pm at Barnby Moor village hall. Following the AGM there will be wine, soft drinks and nibbles and an opportunity to purchase garden paraphernalia and plants donated. For details about the club and its activities please contact Jenny Bailey on (01777) 708 155. New members and visitors are always welcome.

PARISH COUNCIL MEETING

The meeting of the council took place on Wednesday 12th February at the usual starting time of 7:00pm in the Village Hall, and a report will follow.

PARISH LUNCH

The Parish Lunch took place on Tuesday 11th February at the usual time of 12:00noon. The venue was as usual, The Gate Inn public house in the village. A report will follow when to hand.

CHURCH SERVICE

A “Sung Eucharist” took place at the local church on Sunday 9th February at the usual time of 9:15am. The service was conducted by the local vicar the Rev.d Cora Yarrien. Readings from Corinthians 2, verses 1-12  were narrated by Fiona Pagdin and Gospel readings were by Janet Webb.   Intercessions:  Dylan Boddy. Organist: Geof Webb.

GARDENING CLUB

The Sutton and Barnby Moor Club held their meeting on Tuesday 4th February at Barnby Moor village hall at 7:30pm. In January committee members were invited to the Lions’ meeting to receive thanks for helping them fundraise. A healthy crowd turned up for the February meeting where Andrew Ward from Norwell nurseries spoke about “Winter gems”.  Norwell nurseries specialise in unusual perennials, cottage garden plants and alpines. They also hold national collections of chrysanthemums and astrantias. Andrew showed slides of shade loving plants for all months and seasons which was a riot of colour. There was also a selection of plants from the nursery to purchase and of course Andrew was on hand to discuss care and general garden queries.

QUIZ NIGHT

The quiz continues to take place in the Village Hall every Sunday night, £1.00 entry per person which is paid back as prize money! The bigger the crowd – the bigger the prize! New contestants always welcome. Following the quiz “Play your cards right” – Cash Prize! Can you beat the local teams? Come along and try. 8:00pm start and bar open.
