ST. BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH
On Sunday 7th November a “Family Service” was scheduled to take place at the local church at 9:30am ( the 3rd Sunday before advent). The service was conducted by Lay Reader Joan Herrington. The Gospel: Mark 1.14< >20. Intercessions: Janet Webb. Organist Geof Webb. Unfortunately the service had to be abandoned mid-way due to a medical emergency taking place during the event. Members of the congregation gathered around in support of the person concerned. An ambulance was called to the scene and the patient was taken to hospital, and after undergoing various tests was discharged to their home address. Thanks must go to the congregation for their efforts during this worrying situation.
The next service, Remembrance Sunday Service, will take place on Sunday 14th November at the later time of 10:15am. Please note the time in order for the 2 minute silence to be observed at 11am. Please come along and “Remember Them”.
PARISH COUNCIL
The Council met on Wednesday 3rd November at the usual time of 7:00pm in Sutton Village Hall. Councillor Angela Close, Chair of the Parish Council, conducted the meeting presiding over a full committee on the night. Apologies were received on behalf of District Councillor Denise Depledge. County Councillor Tracey Taylor was present at the meeting for support and advice if required. Clerk to the Council Mrs Claire Challener was on hand to advise council and record the proceedings on the night. Several members of the public were also present.
During the public participation section, a resident had asked a councillor to notify council re a vermin problem in the village. This was referred to BDC for clarification of services available, if any, for this problem. From the agenda District and County updates were given, with various other agenda items coming under discussion during the meeting, including the Queens Platinum Celebrations for weekend 2nd to 5th June 2022. Villagers are to be consulted.
Most agenda items were discussed after a great deal of thought and deliberation and the required actions taken. The Chair thanking everyone for their attendance brought the meeting to a close shortly after 9:00pm.
The next meeting of the council is scheduled for Wednesday 8th December at the usual time of 7:00pm in the Village Hall.
SUTTON AND BARNBY MOOR GARDENING CLUB
The group met as scheduled on Tuesday 2nd November at Barnby Moor Village Hall when speaker Rachel Barrowcliffe (MCI Hort) addressed the members on the subject of The Autumn Garden. A group of 34 people were present on the night, including some new members and were to witness one of the better presentations organized by the group.
This was a hands-on experience accompanied by a power point type visual display as Rachel demonstrated various means and ways of taking hardwood cuttings from Roses and fruit trees and advising when and how to do so, bringing plenty of foliage to give members a closer view on what and what not to do! Planting bulbs in layers in tubs and pots was also demonstrated and preparing these for flowering in the spring and summer months ahead. This was well received by members, some unaware of the methods being used, some seeing this for the first time, with keen gardeners and novices alike taking home valuable tips and information on the night.
A question and answer session followed, with most questions being answered satisfactory! A very informative talk with lessons learned on many fronts thanks to Rachel Barrowcliffe and the committee of the Sutton and Barnby Moor Gardening Club.
