The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations
Come and join us to celebrate the Queen’s 70-year reign.
A group of willing volunteers have helped Sutton Parish Council to organise events over the extended Bank Holiday weekend to give people the opportunity to come together to mark this momentous occasion.
On Thursday 2 June at 9:00pm, the Platinum Jubilee Beacon lighting will take place on the Village Hall grounds. This beacon will be one of many being lit around the UK, in Overseas Territories and in all the Commonwealth Countries. The official lighting time will be 9:45pm, so come early to get a good spot and enjoy a slice of Jubilee Beacon Tart, a recipe devised specifically for the occasion incorporating ingredients that represent all 4 nations of the UK.
St. Bartholomew’s Church will be holding a Flower Festival across all 4 days, with the church open from 11:00am to 3:00pm every day with refreshments available throughout. Proceeds from this will go to the fund to provide kitchen and toilet facilities at the Grade 1 listed church. St Bartholomew’s is well worth a visit for anyone new to the village and has an interesting historical connection to the Pilgrim Fathers.
On Sunday 5 June at 9:30am, a Family Service will be held in the church as a tribute to the Queen.
Big Jubilee Lunch
From 12:00 noon on Sunday 5 June the Village Hall will host The Big Jubilee Lunch. Bring a picnic and enjoy a relaxed afternoon with family and friends.
There will be music, children’s games, food outlet, FREE ice cream and a licensed bar from 12:00 noon until 4:00pm as well as the play park and Games Area for the children.
The newly installed Platinum Jubilee planter on the green has now been all planted up by the Gardening Club, although the plants need to fill out now. There is a selection of evergreen and drought tolerant perennial shrubs and plants.
