Cost of Living Crisis Scam

There is a potential scam to be aware of regarding the Cost of Living Crisis payments (the first payment of £326 will automatically be paid into eligible customers bank accounts between 14/7/22 and 31/7/22).

Scammers are contacting residents by text and asking for their bank account details to confirm which account to pay it into.

This text looks like it is from Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). This is a scam and people should never text their bank account details anywhere.

If you are eligible:

  • You do not need to apply for the payment
  • You do not need to call
  • Payment to you is automatic
  • DWP will never ask for personal details by text or email
