Sutton Village Logo

Sutton and Barnby Moor WI

A gentle reminder that when the local association next meet, on Wednesday 20th July, in Sutton Village Hall, a Cookery demonstration will take place courtesy of one of the group members, Michelle Jaafar. All that is needed is a healthy appetite! One not to be missed!

Road Closure

Roadworks took in place on Sutton Lane, due to Western Power works. A diversion via Station Road was in place from 08:00 on Wednesday 6th July until 18:00 on Thursday 8th July; traffic lights and diversion signs were in situ.

This unfortunately caused hold-ups for many travellers due to the frequently closed crossing gates on Station Road. Queuing traffic was seen in both directions, with the lower end of Station Road most congested from the level crossing gates to the junction of Station Road with Town Street / Sutton Lane. Contractors and delivery people attending properties on the street added to the congestion through no fault of their own.

Parish Council

Parish Council Meeting

The Parish Council met as scheduled on Wednesday 13th July at the usual time of 7:00pm in Sutton Village Hall and a report will follow when to hand.

Gardening Club

When Sutton and Barnby Moor Gardening Club held their “Away Day” meeting in July at Gill McMaster NGS garden scheme at Morton Nursery near Babworth, 28 people attended on the night! Many others were on holiday or unavailable due to seasonal illnesses or prior commitments. The group were lucky to be blessed with a lovely summer evening on Tuesday 5th July when the visit took place.

The gardens were beautiful, and so many people commented on the tranquil and peaceful atmosphere. Our host Gill McMaster took members round and answered the questions that were asked. It was amazing how many members didn’t know it existed. Tea and cake outside was lovely, and quite a few people bought plants. The club gave Gill £140.00 which went to the local Hospice.

Thanks must go to the club committee for organizing the event and the nursery management and staff for help and valuable advice given. Yet another success for the club.

If you would like to join the group, please contact Jenny Bailey at gardeningclub@suttoncumlound.net for further details.

St Bartholomew’s Church

Church Service

“Holy Communion” took place at the local church on Sunday 10th July (the 4th Sunday of Trinity). The service commenced at the usual time of 9:30am and was conducted by Father Adrian Mason. Readings from the Gospel: Luke 10: 25 – 37. Intercessions: Janet Webb. Organist: Geoff Webb.

The service for next week, Sunday 17th July (5th Sunday of Trinity) is “Worship for All” and will commence at the usual starting time of 9:3oam.

Toilet and Kitchen Update

The church is moving ever closer to raising the money needed for the installation of a toilet and kitchen to make the building more useful and inclusive for community events. So far, because of people’s generosity, £45,000 has been raised towards the target. Further fundraising activities are being planned as well as the church seeking funding from grants.

A special Just Giving site has been set up for anyone wishing to make a personal donation towards the project. Every penny counts and the church appreciates all donations large or small. If you would like to donate you can either click on the link below, or make a donation by cheque posting it to us, or handing it to one of the Churchwardens.
