The mobile library van will visit the village on Monday 11th July from 10:00am onwards, stopping at all the usual places.

Parish Council

Parish Council Meeting

The next meeting of the Parish Council is scheduled for Wednesday 13th July in Sutton Village Hall at the usual starting time of 7:00pm. You are invited to come and join them.

Parish Councillor Vacancies

The Parish Council have a number of vacancies and would like to co-opt new councillors as soon as possible. If you are interested in joining the Council and serving your community, then please contact the Clerk to the Council for further information.

Gardening Club

After an “Away Day” meeting in July at Gill McMaster NGS garden scheme at Morton Nursery near Babworth, will members please note that there is no meeting locally in August as the group will be visiting the Royal Horticultural Society Garden at Bridgewater on Wednesday 17th August.

A number of vacancies still exist, and non-members are invited to apply for seats at a cost of £18.00 per person, which includes travel and entry. If you would like to join the group on the day, please contact Jenny Bailey at gardeningclub@suttoncumlound.net to book your place.

Sutton Art Group

Workshops by invited local experts have been held by the group recently. They were treated to a very interesting session by Gail Stafford, who showed members two book binding techniques. This proved very popular and inspired many of the group to continue at home and explore further.

The group also enjoyed a full day Acrylic Painting workshop with Helen Silcock. The theme of the day was Painting Seascapes. Much was learned and some amazing works of art were produced. Two villagers who have recently joined the group are Lisa Rees and Ann Nichols and examples of their works have been displayed. Two more vacancies exist within the group, and interested parties can find out more by contacting group leader Joan Reiter on (01777) 711 647.

Village Hall

70s / 80s Party Night

A 70s /80s party night is scheduled to take place in the village hall on Friday 2nd September from 8:00pm. Fancy dress is optional but advisable. A licensed bar will be available on the night

Tickets are £10.00 each in advance. Get your glad rags out and put the date in your diary!

St Bartholomew’s Church

Church Service

On Sunday 3rd July (the third Sunday after Trinity), “A Family Service” was held at the local church and commenced at the usual time of 9:30am. The officiant on the day was licensed Lay Minister/Reader Joan Herrington. Readings from the Gospel: John 20. 24 – 29. Intercessions: Janet Webb. Organist: Geoff Webb.

The service at St. Bartholomew’s on Sunday, 10th July is Holy Communion and will be conducted by Father Adrian Mason, commencing at the usual time of 9:30am. Everyone is welcome

Toilet and Kitchen Update

The church is moving ever closer to raising the money needed for the installation of a toilet and kitchen to make the building more useful and inclusive for community events. So far, because of people’s generosity, £45,000 has been raised towards the target. Further fundraising activities are being planned as well as the church seeking funding from grants.

A special Just Giving site has been set up for anyone wishing to make a personal donation towards the project. Every penny counts and the church appreciates all donations large or small. If you would like to donate you can either click on the link below, or make a donation by cheque posting it to us, or handing it to one of the Churchwardens.
